Hey Everyone, So, I've had definitly my worst travel experience yet. I took off on January 25th for what was supposed to be amazing 12 day travel and vacation experience in London and Scotland. I had high hopes, but definitly was a little nervous before I left, and for good reason I would soon find out. London, most definitly, is one of the hardest of hard cities to be a tourist in. Especially for a small town, country lovin, city hatin girl as myself. Its big, its noisy, the people are not very nice, nobody smiles or laughs, its expensive, you [View Full Entry]

Well, what can I say but I had the best New Years I think of my life. After the incredible day snowboarding, I came home to a huge dinner prepared by all the girls (i felt a little bad having snowboarded all day with the boys while the other girls cooked... but not TOO bad! haha), and 12 of us again sat around the make-shift table in mine and my roommates room. After gorging ourselves and cleaning up the kitchen, it was 11:40 when we all finally piled into 3 cabs and booted it for the center to catch the fireworks. [View Full Entry]

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone! Well, it has been an exciting 8 days. I left Ljubljana early on the 23rd for Italy, to join my Zia Marlene and Zio Luigi for a wonderful Christmas is Genoa! Five uneventful hours on a train and an additional four by car, we arrived to a beatiful, sunny, 15 degree Mediterranean Coast that was absolutely refreshing after 2 months of fog in Ljubljana! Strange having palm trees and ocean spray on Christmas day, but I'm not complaining! Christmas day, I woke up early (ahem... 9am) to my mom phoning (midnight her time!) to [View Full Entry]

Tis the season! Europe » Slovenia » Upper Carniola » Ljubljana
Seasons Greeting everyone! Well, Christmas is nearly upon us, so I'm sure many of you back home are knee deep in reciepts and wrapping paper. Here in Ljubljana, while the commercial aspect of Christmas is slowly creeping in, I'm glad to say that Christmas here seems to be about something much different than over-wrapped yet pretty boxes under a plasic tree and a good self-stuffing of turkey with the fam. Tonight I went to the center square to watch the lighting of the downtown area with over 200 million christmas lights. Honorine, Elise and I arrived in an already packed center [View Full Entry]

It has been about a week I think since my last entry, and will probably be a few weeks before the next one. School has set in (yes, mom and aunty Nancy I AM studying...), along with swing dance classes, yoga, and vollunteering at an asylum seekers shelter, and this doesn't leave much time (nor have I left so much money!) for travelling and partying. So I just thought I would leave you all with a quote that has been mulling through my head for the past five or six months. This is a phrase that has come to mean more [View Full Entry]

... The title above is a quote by my beloved flatmate Maria. Its amazing the way our calm little house of women can sometimes explode into beautiful laughter when something like that gets said! I don't think I've talked much about my roommates, so here goes... There is my actual roommate, Ira. She is from the northern Slovenian town of Maribor, where she goes home to every weekend to work and spend time with her boyfriend and family. She is really a great roommate, and even brought us a little TV, although it doesn't get used much since there is ALWAYS [View Full Entry]

Today JC and I took a day trip from Vienna to Bratislava, Slovakia. We had a late night last night, so we didn't arrive there until about midday, but still had plenty of time to see what we have officially decided is the most boring city in the world.... or at least in the parts of the world we have seen so far! When we arrived, we walked the 2kms from the train station to the castle, only to find out that the castle is open everyday EXCEPT MONDAYS... just our luck of course! I have a great photo of JC [View Full Entry]

Hello from Vienna! Well, it was the best of times, and today was the worst of times. But somehow we managed to stay smiling! Friday after classes, me and JC from Hamilton (who's also studying at the University of Ljubljana with me) took off on 7 hour train ride to Vienna. We arrived late, so basically we just found our hostel and crashed. We're staying at the Hostel Ruthensteiner (http://www.hostelruthensteiner.com/), which is very clean, though a little noisy at night. Yesterday, we started out at the Spanish Riding Museum, watching Lipanzer horses train in a huge indoor ring th [View Full Entry]

Ok everyone... Log out of your computer, get yourself to the airport, buy yourself (and all your friends) a ticket, and come to Slovenia. If you can't tell by the above, I'm (still) having the time of my life. Sunday, I went off for a hike on my own to a near-by village and lookout called Rasica. After losing myself in the numerously-pathed hills for over 2 hours, I met this really nice couple (Rok and Anita) from Ljubljana who showed me the way to the lookout tower and then took me a little ways further to a beautiful little village [View Full Entry]
