I got up at 7 am on Monday so I could shower and get my things together before it was time to leave. We wanted to be ready around 8:30 because the car was going to pick us up at 9. Hayley didn´t want to get up until the last minute so I just let her sleep. I was pretty much ready to go and I ordered breakfast to our room at 8. I ran downstairs to try and get the internet to work. I literally tried every single password but no luck. I saw our breakfast heading up to our room so I just gave up and went upstairs. Hayley had gotten out of bed to answer the door so that was good. I had hot chocolate and bread again. Catie and Alison came to ... read more

We didn´t want to waste a day in BA so we got up around 11 to go to a cemetery called Recoleta. It would be like Arlington in the United States because a lot of famous people and presidents are buried there. It was raining on Sunday, appropriate weather to visit a cemetery. Hayley really didn´t want to get up but we didn´t want to go without her. I showered and then Catie, Alison, and I walked to find some food while we gave her some time to wake up. Apparently nothing is open on Sunday but we eventually found a little corner store to get some snacks. We walked back to the hotel to get Hayley. We decided to take a taxi to the Recoleta because it was raining and we weren´t sure how far ... read more

We didn´t want to spend our time in Buenos Aires sleeping to so we met at 9 am on Saturday morning to go sight-seeing. We all went down for breakfast together. I had tea and bread again. I kind of wanted to go to the art museum in BA called the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. It was near a lot of stuff that we had driven past yesterday and wanted to see up close. We decided that it wouldn´t be too far to walk. We kind of took the scenic route but sometimes that is more fun. We saw an art class going on. It just looked cool, all the people with their easels just painting away. It was a pretty long walk but it was a gorgeous day out. we walked through a park ... read more

When Hayley and I went to bed, we weren´t sure if our clocks were right since the time had changed. Turns our they were wrong. Good thing Alison knocked on our door a little after 8 to see if we were up. Our tour bus was going to pick us up at 9 am. We got up quick and got ready. We went downstairs to get breakfast around 8:30. Breakfast was included free in our package. We could get tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. To eat there was a big tray of bread (toast and crescent rolls with jelly and butter). I got tea and ate my bread. The bus was there before we knew it. It was just a little white bus. There were other people already on it. We wanted to sit near windows ... read more

Catie´s host mom picked me up at my house to go the bus station. Our bus tickets were for 10:30 p.m. Catie wanted to be really early for some reason so they picked me up around 9 p.m. Alison was going to meet us at the bus station. We arrived at the bus station at 9:20. Alison wasn´t there yet and she had our tickets. Catie thought that Alison was going to be there at 9:30 but Hayley and I thought maybe she thought we were meeting at 10. We tried texting and calling her but she didn´t answer. Catie was really freaking out. Hayley was totally calm and I was a little worried since she wasn´t answering her phone. Alison showed up a little after 10, much to our relief. We boarded our bus. The ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Concepción September 23rd 2009

Saturday we stayed in Chillan. Marcela´s entire family was at her parent´s house. Literally! I was pretty bored all morning. I blogged and then just watched t.v. and listened to people. There was a lot of food being prepared. They set up a huge long table in the garage area. A barbeque is Chile is called an "asado" which is the spanish word for roast. There was so much meat! My favorite are the longanizas (sausages) that Chillan is famous for. While we were waiting to eat lunch, they served pieces of longaniza on a bun, like a hot dog. It was delicious! The little toddler that is in their family was dressed in traditional Chilean clothes for the holiday. I didn´t get a picture of him wearing them though because they changed him shortly after ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Chillan September 19th 2009

We left for Chillan Thursday night. Not a real exciting drive. I was kind of tired and I slept a little bit. We saw a rainbow while we were driving so that was kind of cool. Of course, when we arrived in Chillan we chatted for a little bit and then we ate a little dinner. After that I watched T.V. and chatted with everyone. An aunt and uncle and their two girls were here as well. I would tell you their names but it is too hard to remember who everyone is, kind of like meeting the Hundt family for the first time. You basically won't remember until you've met them a few times. I stayed up until about midnight. I wasn't sure what time we were leaving in the morning but Jorge had already ... read more

Tuesday was our trip to Lota. We met outside the Humanities building at 8:30 a.m. I got up at 6:30 to shower and so I could ride with Marcela to the University at 7:30. I would be there kind of early but it is easier and cheaper to be a little early than to take the micro or collectivo. Marcela had a class at 8:10 so I just sat in her office and used her computer while I waited. I went outside to wait around 8:20. Jessica was there but nobody else yet. I decided I wanted some cappuccino so we walked to the little store on campus. The store is called "el ombligo" which means bellybutton. haha. I got a little cappuccino and a media luna which is a little pastry. It was really yummy. ... read more

South America » Chile » Biobío » Concepción September 14th 2009

I tossed and turned Thursday night. I basically didn't sleep at all. My stomach really hurt and I was hot and cold. I woke up wide awake at 3:30 and I had only gone to bed around 1. I had to get up at 6 because we were leaving from the University at 7 to go to Chillan(pronounced Chee-on). In the night I had pretty much convinced myself that I wasn't going to go. My alarm when off at 6 and I thought I felt alright. I decided to go but really my new philosophy is going to be that when I think I should stay in bed, I really should. There wasn't anybody of the roads of Concepcion at 6:40. We got to campus a little early but everyone was there shortly. I think Professor ... read more

The weather here has been great. Tuesday was another beautiful day. I took the micro to school for Professor Triana's class from 10 to 12. We worked on writing about ourselves. After class, I went with Christina, Catie, and Hayley to show them where the registro civil was. Catie and I also wanted to exchange out American money. While Hayley and I waited for the other two, we walked around and tried to find the money exchange place. We didn't find any and so we went back to the registro civil around 12:40. I was supposed to go home for lunch with my host mom around 1:20 so we didn't have a whole lot of time. Catie was convinced that there is a place on O'Higgins so we walked down there. We got all the way ... read more
