Wow, that guy can talk. We got downtown at 8:30 and had to wait 45 minutes in line before the metal detectors. the line was huge. started at the corner of front st and main, then went along the river to roughly pine and front, then back, up main and a right on 2nd st. a lot of people spoke first, local politicians, grass roots organizers and then around 10:30 he came on. the streets were packed. the fire department estimated about 15000 people. you don't really need me to tell you that he's an amazing speaker but hearing it in person is pretty moving. he lamented that he couldn't stay and have a pint at oktoberfest since he is flying back to washington to try and push through the economic rescue plan. a lot of ... read more

Well, my procrastination has apparently sunken to a new low. I'm finally finishing this deal. I've been back in the States for over 5 weeks now so I suppose this should be finished. Looking back on Greece, despite Brad's accident, it was a really cool experience. Athens was slightly disappointing; the city was pretty dirty and not much to see besides the Acropolis. Also, the Parthenon was covered in scaffolding which is understandable since the thing makes the buildings in Spain look like they are in their infancy, but still kind of less cool than I had expected. We also walked to the Temple of Zeus which is only about 14 columns of what used to be over 100. It was kind of cool though and from there I got a cool picture of the Acropolis. ... read more

athens was really cool. mynokos and santorini were beautiful. we saw some amazing things, all of which i'll talk about later but it's one of the saddest days of the semester right now. yesterday brad, one of my roommates for the semester and one of the guys that i traveled with, rolled his ATV. he didn't break any bones or anything but he has some serious road rash and just can't travel anymore. he got to the hospital and got checked out and last night he was ok but today even the most routine tasks are difficult and painful. he has massive scrapes all over his sholdur, arm, elbow, both palms, feet, and back. it was going to be hard to leave anyways, but for it to end like this is what no one expected. he ... read more

so this is the last blog from spain. ridiculous. it seems like an hour ago i was filling out applications just to come here. i finished my last test about 20 minutes ago and in like 7 hours i leave sevilla. this last week was awesome. i played frisbee one last time and at the bar the frisbee team gave me a disc that they all signed. it was hard to say goodbye to everyone. harder than i thought it would be. as a side note i ate snails and octupus. one last night of ridiculous food. last night was one of my favorite nights. me and the roomies went to all of our favorite places one last time despite the fact that i had a 8:30 exam. (don´t worry, it went really well and i ... read more

well, there´s no way to end a trip but with excitment and confusion. So yesterday, a big group of us is sitting by the river, soaking in one of the last days in sevilla and talking about how we´re excited for the cruise when kelly gets a text from brad. ¨the cruise is cancelled.¨ we all thought it was a joke and were talking about how he must think it´s funny. but guess what. the cruise is friggin cancelled. check the link http://easycruise.com/gb/news/archive/25.04.08.asp so not only do i have 4 finals, packing all of my stuff, and figuring out work info for this summer to figure out. i have about a 7 day void of travelling now. we have to call on monday and figure out what type of reimbursment is going to happen: just the ... read more

I resisted the urge to call this blog Last Tango in Paris since although the title would have been good since it was the last trip, I have not seen the movie and from what I have heard the events of the movie vary slightly from my weekend. First off, the trip started at 8 am with a 6 hour bus ride to Madrid to catch our plane. this went well but at the bus station sarah was pickpocketed and lost her passport, wallet including cash and credit cards, and her camera. she couldn´t leave the country without her passport and had to stay and figure out stuff at the police station and u.s. embassy. we wanted to stay and help her but she insisted that it would be stupid for us all to miss out ... read more

only having a day before the tournament after morocco and still being a little sick, i was less than thrilled for the drive. 8 of us: me, sergi, jose, mac, jordi, alberto, ana, and miguel, met at santa justa and we left in two cars. i rode in miguel´s audi with ana and sergi. we listened to a bunch of spanish music from the eighty´s and they kept asking me if i had heard any of it before but it was all totally new to me. we didn´t get to the place until about 1145 pm and we just went straight to bed. the complex was interesting. they had a bunch of fields, tenis courts, etc. and then pools, a cafeteria, and a dorm. our whole team stayed in one room with 6 bunk beds. Juan ... read more

Morocco, or as I used to spell with a bonus ¨r¨, Morrocco, was an entirely different universe. The trip was a 6 day whirlwind of different foods, old cities, arabic, sand, camels, and seemingly countless bus trips. the very first thing that got me after the ferry ride when we were in Tangiers was the writing. It was weird first getting to Sevilla and seeing stuff in Spanish and then in Barcelona when stuff was in Catalan. However, Arabic takes the cake since they dont even use the alphabet. It pretty much looks like either doodles or a series of lower case i´s and j´s with the occasional random semicolon. you have no idea what you´re looking at. from tangiers we drove to rabat for lunch which was better than i expected. it was like a ... read more

I had my last test on thursday and that same night i was on a plane with aaron to barçelona. it felt like a different country. the first thing that struck me was the language, catalan. it is kind of like castillian spanish but it certainly is it´s own language. there was a lot i couldn´t figure out. Next the architecture felt very modern and the gaudi buildings and park guell were unlike anything i had seen before. it was weird being in sevilla where everything is older and then going to barçelona where modern buildings are all over. we found a great hostel right off of las ramblas which is pretty much the main street in the older section of the city. we ended up meeting a guy from menorca, tom, who was really cool ... read more

enitrely too much happened since my last entry. mom, dad, holly, sam, and ella all came for semana santa which was really cool. hotel murillo was cool and on the skinniest street ever. the pasos were really cool at first but then you can´t get anywhere you want to go without getting stuck behind one or having it cross your path. we saw more than we wanted to and almost got trampelled by a virgen in plaza salvador. the nazarenos, dudes in kkk outfits, were pretty creepy but interesting to see. we saw everything: cathedral, giralda, alcazar, plaza nueva, plaza espana, museo bellas artes, and even made it to granada to see alhambra which was still amazing. nice to actually get pictures of it this time. food was awesome except for the¨italian¨ in granada that was ... read more
