I'm on the last leg of my trip and just finished up a week of travelling around alone on the south island of New Zealand. Its just beautiful here. I really like New Zealand. I flew to Christchurch last Sunday and spent the afternoon looking around the city. Its a bit older than most cities in New Zealand, so I enjoyed looking at all the old buildings. There are no mountains near Christchurch, but it is still very cute with a river flowing through it and neat bridges and parks. The next day I took a bus to Queenstown which is much farther south in the heart of the mountains! They are just stunning. These mountains are a lot different than the ones in Australia because they are more jagged with snow on top. They remind ... read more

Had a great time with Jamie in Surfer's Paradise. Jamie and I spent the day at the beach and then went to this cabaret show called Dracula's which was a comedy/music/singing/dancing show which was hillarious!! I had such a good time and I think Jamie did too! The day after Surfer's Paradise we stopped at the Karumbin Wildlife sanctuary where we got to play with kangaroos and hold a koala! I've decided that koala's are the cutest animals I've ever seen and I wish I could smuggle one back. They are just so sleepy and adorable when they cling to you. The kangaroos were super friendly and would let you pet them. From there we went to Coff's Harbour where we stayed at a surf camp! The camp was run by a bunch of really laid ... read more

Well, its been a long time since I've updated (mainly due to the remote places I've been in the last little while!). Had a great time in Cairns again. I went on another reef tour with the Contiki group which was actually a lot better than the first one. It was more what I was expecting to see: big coral reef shelves with big drop offs and TONS of fish swimming around. We saw a neat one called a Mauri Wrasse and I got a great professional underwater picture taken with one. It is really neat looking. It was about a meter long and really fat with giant lips and a bulbous head. I'll try to upload it later. From Cairns we went to the Whitsundays islands. We stayed on an island called Daydream island and ... read more

Well, I spent the last few days in Cape Tribulation with the Contiki Tour. It was pretty cool. We stayed in a resort in the Daintree Rainforest! It was absolutely beautiful. We went on a few more hikes through the forest and saw lots of different wildlife and trees including a large bird called a Cassowary, which is aparently pretty rare to see! We also swam in some neat freshwater swimming holes smack dab in the middle of the forest which was pretty neat, and very refreshing!! With the humidity it is about 40 degrees here! In one of the evenings I went on a sunset kayaking trip on the ocean. We had really good luck and the ocean was extremely calm so we got to go even further than they normally do and we saw ... read more

Yesterday I flew to Cairns! The flight was good... I spent the afternoon touring around the city of Cairns. Not a huge city, but I liked what I saw. There is no beach (just muck when the tide goes out) but there is lots of neat crabs and birds poking around in it. They also have this giant free outdoor pool right next to the water so it FEELS like you are swimming in the ocean. The pool was really nice. Especially because its BOILING here! Its now 7:30 at night but I'm still sitting here sweating. Today I went on a full day trip to the great barrier reef. It was pretty neat! Saw a giant sea turtle on the boat ride out. Then saw tons of cool fish during the snorkle time. Saw some ... read more

Having lots of fun with Jamie still in Surfer's Paradise! Unfortunately this is my last day here with him. Yesterday was beautiful so we spent the day at the beach. We swam in the waves and played on a boogie board for the whole morning. While we were swimming there was a big lifeguarding competition going on around us and they had helicopters flying really low filming the race. Pretty neat! Saw the televised version on TV today, but we didn't manage to get 15 minutes of fame haha! Today Jamie and I went for a hike through the rainforest up Mount Warning which was in New South Wales. It was absolutely beautiful! The rainforest was amazing... full of giant trees called Booyang trees as well as tons of giant fig trees and palms. Oh and ... read more

Made it to Australia safe and sound and have already filled my time with new and exciting things! The plane ride was a long one (26 hours in total) but it actually seemed to go by pretty quickly. I watch 2 full movies and half of two others. It was difficult to read on the plane because they kept it dark and most people tried to sleep. I had about 5 hours of sleep in total which I thought was pretty good. Then we were getting close to Australia (we were about 2 hours out of Brisbane) and then the captain came on and told us we did not have the legal amount of fuel to reach the destination. Huh? So we actually had to land at a french island called "Noumea" where we fuelled up. ... read more
