I just received my Travel Document from Collette Vacations for my trip to Australia and New Zealand. So far, I'm impressed with the package they sent me, which includes my e-tickets for all my flights - including the "short" hops within Australia, and the hop from AUS to NZ. The picture is of the tour, the various places we will visit, and the duration of each stop. It's going to be a busy 23 days of the tour after a two day journey to get to Cairns to start the adventure.... read more

Time for a new adventure. I'm off to swim with dolphins for a week and am really looking forward to this new adventure. The timing may not be the best with my recent move of my house from the city to the country, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Check out the location and company that offers this trip at this link: http://www.wildquest.com/ I may not be able to blog from Bimini, but will give an update when I can.... read more

Yesterday I celebrated a birthday, and had a lovely day. I went to the spa in the morning for a facial, manicure and pedicure, and then did a little siteseeing in the afternoon. I wanted to keep it a quiet day, so I went to the Gandhi Museum. It is located on the site where Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated, and is a lovingly preserved site where you can see where he lived during the last 144 days of his life, where he went to pray each day, and information on his fight for India's freedom from British rule. There is a new set of panels showing that Gandhi's fight was only the end of a fight that went on from 1857 to 1947 when India suceeded at getting their independence. The grounds were beautiful, and everyone ... read more

I have arrived back in Delhi where my journey began. I have a few days now to explore the city and see the sites. Upon entering the city, you can tell it is much more modern than than the other areas of the country I've seen because the drivers actually stop at red lights, and go when it's green - seriously. There is still a lot of horn honking (instead of signalling), but signalling does occur and honking is less. It is another foggy, smoggy day. I don't know how people can live in this country with the bad air. I asked someone today about the tempurature (it was around 30 degrees C), and they said that it is now warmer at this time of year than it used to be since the pollution is so ... read more

Asia » India » Uttar Pradesh » Agra November 20th 2011

We made it to Agra safe and sound. We flew from Amritsar to Delhi and had a driver from Delhi to Agra. The road is good - it's part of the popular Delhi-Agra-Jaipur (aka Golden) triangle. However, we had to take a detour, but the was no explanation given by the driver. I think it was because we asked to stop for lunch and he took us to a large tourist rest-stop that had adequate food. The roads were poor on the detour and we were definitely in the country-side where all the farming was. I know it was a detour since we drove Agra back to Delhi today on the good road in much less time. It was interesting to see all of the various animal life - pigs, cows, water buffalo, camels, horses - ... read more

Our stay in Amritsar has been short, but we have been very busy. The first morning we crossed the street to the Golden Temple - we couldn't be any closer. Since we are so close, my four travel companions and I have spend a lot of time there, walking around, meditating, etc. We visited the Sikh Museum that shows this history of the ten Gurus, right up the present day Sikh leaders. The spirituality here is so strong, you can feel it as soon as you step on the grounds and are asked to leave your shoes at the gate. You wash your feet before entering the sacred area around the temple. They feed many people on the temple grounds free of charge. You can stay as long as you want and you are only expected ... read more

The rest of the festival was great. There was a special evening ceremony on the Ganges to honour the festival and many of the kundalini artists who performed during the festival performed at the Arti ceremony. There was also a farwell concert with music by all the performers. It was time to leave the ashram for new adventures. The car ride to the train station was interesting. We had to go to Haridwar to catch the train, which is also a very popular yoga area along the Ganges, but just out of the mountains. In the train station the porters carry your luggage on their head to take you to the proper platform. The train system in India is the life line of the country. The trains generally run on time, and everyone uses them. We ... read more

The yoga festival has been amazing. There are people from all over the world. I've met people from Belgium, South Africa, Australia, Finland, Sweden, and of course the US, just to name a few. The festival was organized through a yoga studio in Los Angeles, so there are mostly Americans here. We rise up every morning at 3:30 am to go to 4:00 am sadhana, which is the morning yoga practice to start the day. After breakfast, the days events start with another yoga class, and maybe a meditation or lecture. The afternoons are less strenuous with artists performing their kundalini music. Some of the most popular performers I know through the kundalini practice are here, so it's wonderful to see them up close and in this setting. All the activities are in a large covered ... read more

We had two full days to explore the area around the ashram and the shopping nearby. The market streets are very narrow and there are cows and people everywhere, with motorcycles beeping at you as try to walk along. I bought some nice yoga clothes and a few gifts at the shops. This area is very used to having people from all over the world visit, so it is easy to get what you need if you know who to ask to get what you need. There are even monkeys along the streets where the food vendors are trying to get people to give them food. Pesky things, those monkeys. They like to run across the roof of our block of apartments at the ashram. The ashram staff try to keep them off at night, but ... read more
