Borneo trip response I believe the location for the river cruise on the Kinabatangan is between 3-4 hours east from Kota Kinabalu. It was a full day bus ride though between Semporna and Kota Kinabalu (12 hours) but travels the same route. So, I think you should be able to take a bus from Semporna and get off where the River Cruise company picks you up. You definitely should arrange ahead of time for the river cruise. If you're pressed for time it would probably be faster to fly from Tawau to KK and then catch transportation to the Kinabatangan pick up spot. You'll need to get a hold of the company which can be arranged by tour agencies and guesthouses. Some of the details are also in Lonely Planet guides. Sorry, I am not too clear on the details. We weren't on any kind of time restriction at the time we traveled. Also, beware of guesthouses/travel companies; when we arranged our Kinabatangan cruise the guesthouse gave us the correct location to travel too but neglected to book us a room which was (luckily) just a small hiccup. Best of luck!
Dead Wrong! Sorry mate but don't give people false hopes and claim you don't need to book accomodations 6 months in advance. There is a shortage of beds up at laban rata and the other huts there and given the number of tour companies and tourist who do frequent mt kinabalu these days, assuming there are beds and trying to get beds sorted out at the last minute is generally doomed to failure. You may have been lucky on your trip but advising people that its easy to do is total BS...
As for the "over priced" cost to climb the mountain, how much is it in EURO or USD to climb south east asia's highest mountain as a comparison to other peaks in those "1st world" countries?
Get real!

Monywa happily with my family. Now I am not here.
I miss my family and Monywa.
Thank you for your blog on Monywa Hello there
I thank you very much for your photos of Boditataung and its neighbourhood.I was born there many years ago and these photos remind me of my days as a small boy in the village. The small hills in the background are where I worked as a sheppard boy looking after the goats my parents raised for their livelihood.
My father was a school teacher and my mother was selling foods and other paraphenalia which she carried on her head. The monk who build all these buddha statutes was my uncle on my father's side and the reverend monk passed away 2 years ago. I hope I will see you in your next visit to Monywa.

Wow! I didn't know that Langkawi was that beautiful as seen in your pictures. Did you check your camera and made sure those pics were not taken in Thailand?
Ok, you did! Next question, say, did Tourism Malaysia pay for your trip? :)
I've been to Langkawi but I didn't cover so many areas. Glad you had a great time there.
Cheap?? I'm not sure who was writing this part but had a giggle when you talked about this. As your Grampa B would say..."Grind em"!! He taught you well :-)
Be careful Vendors play tricks,it's so common to confronted with this situation in China. As you say, they often take advantage of language barrier to trick foreigners.Maybe you should take this extra expense into your travel budget.Never forget to bargain,it's better to have some trusted native friends with you.Good luck!
