Island Hopping Trip
Langkawi

When we arrived in Langkawi we were greeted by a large eagle statue at the pier, I could tell it was full of tourist attractions. After settling in at one of the guesthouses along the Tenga Beach, we had to explore the sandy beach. Pantai (beach) Tenga was less and the water was clearer than Pantai Cenang. Food is really good if you can find a local stall. Our favourite was a stall across from the Underwater World, this family made the best lemon tea and milk tea (in a bag). The fried noodle and fried rice was also amazing. The stall had the open kitchen set up where you can sneak a few cooking secrets. After a few days of hopping to two different guesthouses we had to move off the beach to save some bling. The amendities in guesthouses on/off the beach are comparable but vary in price. We found a place off the beach and finally figured out how to cool the room after a few days. It was quite comfortable at Rumours Guesthouse. We found another food stall beside our guesthouse called "OK BOSS" and it served really delicious local dinners including fried fish and chicken stirfry.

Langkawi is full of small shops and resturants along the two main beaches, Pantai Tenga and Pantai Cenang. There are definitely the over priced nicely decorated restuarants and resorts but there are also the small local shops, fruit stands and guesthouses that made us more comfortable after a fews days there. We rented a car for one day and drove around the whole island exploring different beaches. There were more rice paddies and local shops away from the beach. Geoff drove a right hand stick vehicle and on the left side of the road. I was too chicken to drive so I was the "awesome" navigator.

One of the days we found a reasonable price on the package island hopping tour advertised everywhere. The islands and sea were beautiful and well worth it. We cruised around first to the Pregnant Maiden Lake, to a mangrove where Eagles were feeding and then to an island with crystal blue water. Soooo nice.

Another day we cruised around on a scooter like Harry and Loyd (Dumb and Dumber). But got to see things in a whole different fashion as we could wind around on some of the more narrow backroads going how the locals go.

Wow! I didn't know that Langkawi was that beautiful as seen in your pictures. Did you check your camera and made sure those pics were not taken in Thailand? Ok, you did! Next question, say, did Tourism Malaysia pay for your trip? :) I've been to Langkawi but I didn't cover so many areas. Glad you had a great time there.
