Pulau Payar Dive
beautiful snorkelling area Diving with East Marine at Pulua Payar
After seeing the scenery at Pulua Payar as we were heading to Langkawi, we had to organize a dive trip out to the beautiful clear water. Pulua Payar is a Marine Park well known for its' snorkelling and diving. We dove with East Marine from Langkawi and the shop was very helpful and organized. The boat was full of divers and snorkellers but there were so many different dive sites around the island, all divers were nicely spread out. Pulua Payar was full of marine life and we spotted many colourful fish. While we were diving we came across a 5 foot long baracuda and I thought it was a little too friendly. I saw every detail in his mouth so you can imagine how close it was getting. During lunch time, there was an organized reef shark feeding so we got to swim with the sharks. Geoff got up and personal with the sharks, sitting along a concret ledge trying to take pictures underwater but the sharks were very shy. The sharks were much easier to spot above the water.
Our dive guide "Amm" (pronounced 'Um') was really patient, knowledgable and
fun to dive with. Many of the underwater pictures were his handy work. Highlights from this dive trip were the big schools of fish, the colourful soft corals, the big big groupers, and of course the big Barracuda and swimming with the reef sharks. The island itself is very beautiful as well.
Mazi enjoyed taking pictures up close especially with the big Moray eel. haha
