Ok, first things first: Will someone tell Nanny that when I was showing off pictures of my lovely family, friends and boyfriend to one of my new friends here he said, “Oh, that is your grandma? Well, how have I already been in Ghana for 5 weeks?? These last two weeks have just flown by. Incredible. I am finally content with the food, and am starting to actually look forward to my bowl of beans and cassava, or rice, or plantains. I have ridden my first seven tro-tros, and succeeded in buying food out of one of their windows as the driver sits in traffic, things here are actually starting to feel normal. Well hello again. The weather here has been wonderful the last couple of days, and while I am still having slight head issues, I have finally been able to really enjoy the last few days here, and for that I am so thankfullllll. Well, I am back from another weekend of traveling, and looking forward to settling into Legon again, get into the swing of classes as (hopefully) they are all in full swing as of this week. Even though classes have started, I only have one class (the English class I am auditing, not taking for credit) that has any reading material available. With the political science classes, the lecturers claim that they have made reading available to buy in the department office, but it is a lie. lol. It is amazing the things I have to leave out in these updates because so much goes on and my time on the internet is limited (with it working so slowly + the fact that I have to pay for internet time in most cafes). On thing I definitely meant to mention last time was my water bottle experience. Here in Ghana, a normal size bottle of water is the equal vent of 40 cents, and a very large bottle is 70 or 80 cents. Hello! Well today was a beautiful sunny day, and it is transitioning into a beautiful evening. I woke up with my first mosquito bite today! I guess I couldn't expect to stay bite free the entire 18 weeks... Let's see...yesterday's classes were pretty wonderful. I had dance again at 7:30 am and again today at 11:30. I honestly love love love that class. I would never take a dance class at home because I would be self-conscious that I had my dad's rhythm haha! Well classes started today! Bright and early at 730 am I had my first dance class! I have tried twice today to upload photos, and i got one uploaded i think! sigh. well dance class was a workout, an embarrassment, and amazingly fun! It is basically a small hot room with 120 students all trying to see the instructor and follow his movements! and, well...i am not a good dancer, but one the plus side I had five Ghanian's, some in the class, and some waiting from outside, all trying to help me with my moves! haha. so, i have the [View Full Entry]
