Hi Friends, Today is Zanzibar day!! Very exciting! Yesterday was my last day at the orphanage. It was incredibly sad, obviously I cried. When do I not cry? We threw a little party for the kids with balloons and music and candy. We had so much fun! The kids LOVE playing with balloons and dancing to the World Cup song, so we put it on repeat and it has been in my head ever since. Before I left they gave me a thank you card and they all signed their names and it was so cute. It was definitely the hardest saying goodbye to Joaseph and Bryson. I even tried to run out with Joseph but got caught. Hiding a 3 year old under your t-shirt is way less concealing than one would think. But over ... read more

I'm TANNED! and a little bit burnt. But don't focus so much on that part, it's the tan we're getting excited about! And yes, I applied my SPF 50 like it was going out of style. Why am I so tanned you ask? Well, I was at the beach for 4 days! It was wonderful. On Friday we left really early and drove in Nelson's van to a coastal town called Pangani, and then took a ferry for literally 2 minutes across the Pangani River to get to the ocean side of the town. It was BEAUTIFUL! We stayed at this little resort called Beach Crab Resort, and funny enough, there are crabs all over the beach! Coincidence, right? But the crabs are only out at night, and they don't want to hang out with you ... read more

Hi everybody! So safari was amazing!!! I don't really know how to explain it on a blog, so I am just going to write a bit, and post some pictures, and then we can all talk about how awesome it was when I am home and in person. I hope that is ok? The safari was 4 days and 3 nights camping. I know, I camped. Shocking. The first day was spent in Tyrengere National Park, and it was where we saw the most animals. The park was beautiful! We spent the full day driving around there, and were able to get so close to most of the animals. We even saw lions mating!! The camp site was pretty small, and it was gated, so there were no animal intruders that night. It was fun camping ... read more

Hi everyone! Wanda came down to visit me in Arusha last weekend. She stayed with us in our house and she got to have the full Arusha experience. On Saturday I brought her to Camp Moses to meet my kids and the mammas. She took some AMAZING photos with her giant camera! Very print worthy. It was nice because she got to see how I spend my time and why I love being here. Later in the day we went to the used clothes market and went wild. It was fantastic. Anything that reminds me of Value Village is alright in my books. Sunday I took her to Shanga (the bead place I talked about in one of the first blogs) and had a great time exploring there. It was sad saying goodbye because I know ... read more

Hi everyone!! I must apologize for the lack of recent posts... nothing new and exciting has been happening here recently. It's funny because now that I have been here for over a month, it really feels like I live here, so it isn't BRAND NEW anymore. But that isn't to say that I am not still loving it here. Now I am going to say something and you are all going to read it and think "you're a nut Erin", but I feel the need to share anyways. So you all know how excited i was for this experience and how long I have wanted to travel to Africa for. Well on Monday a few of us were taking Meaghan to the airport because she was going back home (sad face), and I was looking out ... read more

Mambo! We just got power back after a few days of mass random power outages and eating beans cooked over a propane tank... ah the good life. So, when I last left off, I was in love with my children (note how I call them MY children... make room Feldman Family!), and clearly that has not changed. On Thursday Meaghan and I went to Camp Joshua to visit the older kids and distribute a shoe donation. We set up about 64 pairs of childrens shoes, and the kids that were boarders (living at the orphanage, as opposed to just going to school there) who had no shoes got to pick whichever shoes they wanted. Out of all the kids that were there, only 4 were unable to get ones that fit them properly, so Meaghan and ... read more

I am so sorry for the delay in this weeks post, things here have been very hectic, what with me planning a kidnapping and all. To be honest, every time I sat down to write about my first few days at the orphanage, I was at a loss for words and had no idea how to convey how I felt, or what I saw, and do it justice all at the same time. So bear with me while I try. Monday was my first day at Camp Moses. I took my daladala there, and walked up my dirt path, and came to the property with a dozen little children roaming around. They all sort of looked at me, and then back at what they were doing. After I put my stuff away, I went back outside ... read more

Apparently uploading photos in a third world country takes waaaayyyyy longer than it does in Canada. My apologies. There must be an easier way of doing this. Clearly you all know me very well, so you can understand that I got impatient an ripped the camera out of the computer and just hoped for the best. I feel like getting them developed here and mailing them to you would be faster... At some point in the near future I will master this process and you can all see how I live. Hello again friends. It has come to my attention that I have neglected to mention my living arrangements in the fine town of Arusha. Well, our house sits on a hill, not at the top, but a decent way up, and there is a driveway ... read more
