I'm finally trying to finish the blog of our 2009 trip. We've been home for three weeks and very busy. We went up to Jacksonville for a couple days and I was going to finish there but we were so busy I didn't even turn on the computer. I'm going to try to keep this short but it covers about a full month of travels. 8-14/16-2009 From Westover we came down to a city park near my sister's house. Croton Point is on the Hudson River and has a nice campground for a city park. We were less than 10 miles from Sandy's so it was much easier to get there than when we stayed at West Point a couple years ago. On Saturday we took Max to another vet to get enough meds to get ... read more

7-18/19-2009 Van Buren Ohio - Pleasant View Rv Park. We spent the weekend here before going to the FMCA rally so we could prepare for several days of dry camping. We did some laundry, filled the fresh water tank and made sure the other tanks were empty. We were surprised to find they were having a free gospel sing Saturday evening. They had a very good group called Exodus. Sunday we met the previous owners of the park at church. 7-20/24-2009 Bowling Green Ohio - FMCA Rally. We are members of the Family Motor Coach Association and since they were having their national rally at Bolling Green State College about the same time we would be passing near there we decided to attend. There were about 2,700 coaches in attendance. They were parked all over the ... read more

7-2-09 We had gotten reservations near East St Louis IL in a small town called Cahokia for the 4th of July. We arrived on July 2 mid afternoon, on a grey day, but decided to go for a drive to find a place to watch the fire works. It was a pretty nice camp ground with an excellent BBQ resturant called the Saw Mill. We had dinner there and it was very good but we found their speciality a couple days later. We were only there 6 nights but ate at the Saw Mill 3 times. They made their own thick potato chips and used them in a dish they called BBQ nachos. They put pulled pork, cheese, baked beans and slaw on them and they were amazing. 7-3-09 We had to do laundry and I ... read more

6-9-09 We finally left Cheyenne today. It's rather a shame there were some interesting things there but we didn't see much except the urgent care, Wal-mart for meds and the campground. It rained quite a bit but that helped make Durham stay in and sleep so he could get well enough to travel again. Sunday I went to church alone and it's a good thing, it was raining so hard when I came out I got soaked on the way to the car. Durham really didn't need out in that. We moved on to Chappell NE for a few days. Our first day there the tornado sirens started, as we started for the shelter we met the campground owner and he said since the siren stopped it was just a warning. If there were a tornado ... read more

CORRECTION: One error I didn't see till after I published the entry on Zion Park. The three patriachs were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob not Joseph. 5-22-09 Our only full day in Springville we decided to go to Utah Lake State Park. It was a very pretty little park on the east side of the largest fresh water lake in Utah, but not as big as Salt Lake. We looked around the park campground it had water and electric but we had already checked in for two nights so we had no intention of moving. As we looked arround the park we saw the water skier with the snow covered mountain in the background. Further arround the bay a lady was standing on the dock with a pretty little sun dress on but I wasn't willing to ... read more

5-12-2009 Our last day at Page we decided to go back to an overlook we couldn't get in on our way to Page. From there we went to Navajo Canyon bridge where we could see some rafts in the Colorado River, possibly on a white water rafting trip. From there we went up to Marble Canyon for lunch then up to Lees Ferry. We saw where the ferry had been but couldn't figure where the wagons went after they crossed the ferry. Max "Today was great! Instead of staying in the car most f the time I got to go to lunch with Mom & Daddy. Mom handed me over a barrier to Dad the when they finished eating Dad passed me back over so we could go. Then the next time we stopped I got ... read more

5-3-09 We attended Camp Verde UMC this morning and heard the best tything sermon we ever heard. After church we had to hurry home to get out of the campground since our space was promised for Sunday after lunch. We had a pretty good trip up to Flagstaff. The mountains were rather steep a couple over 6% but we made it safely. We had decided to stay at Ft. Tuthill the Luke AFB campground. We had looked at it last year but didn't realize how unlevel the sites were. We had to jack the coach up till the back wheels were off the ground so we only stayed a few days. 5-4-09 Years ago when Ron and I were in this area we stopped at the Meteor Crater and were not impressed, so last year we ... read more

4/26/09 Michelle joined us for church this morning. It was a nice service, on the way out we met a couple that lived in the same area as Michelle . She went home and we went back to the coach to change and get Max. After doing a few basics toward getting ready to leave we went out to Michelles for a last afternoon together before we leave. She is so much better I feel comfortable leaving. We had a nice visit and a very good dinner then went back to the coach planning for a late departure the next day. 4/27/09 We got a good report from the vet and were on the road by 11 AM. There were a couple of nerve racking hills on the way to Camp Verde but we got there ... read more

We left Hempstead for Stonewall on a grey somewhat windy day. We would be in the Texas hill country for a couple more days. The hill country is the best part of texas in my opinion. Stonewall is a small town near the LBJ State and National Parks. When we arrived we realized there was probably only one RV Park so we stopped and asked someone at the park if it was the one we were looking for, he said no it was about a quarter mile further. We went about a mile and decided it must have been the one. Durham got permission to turn arround in someone's front lawn, then we had to cross traffic to check in then cross back over and go down the road to a gas station to turn arround ... read more

April 9th 2009

The first few days of this years trip were spent within 50 miles of home. We stayed at Camp Blanding where we ate, visited with National Guard friends, ate, listened to some good music, ate, and generally had a great time. Max asks "Why do you have to live somewhere with so many steps? It's really hard and sometimes they have to help me up." On Sunday we decided to attend church in Starke, since we decided to stay at Camp Blanding until after Elaine's doctor appointment on Monday. Tuesday morning we left for Tallahassee. We had a great time in Tallahassee even though it rained most of the time. We visited with Lauren ( Durham's grandauhter), Max got a hair cut and we got to watch Lauren on TV several times. (she's now temporary morning ... read more
