Coaches at Rally
This is just a few of the coaches attending the FMCA Rally we went to in Bowling Green Ohio 7-18/19-2009 Van Buren Ohio - Pleasant View Rv Park. We spent the weekend here before going to the FMCA rally so we could prepare for several days of dry camping. We did some laundry, filled the fresh water tank and made sure the other tanks were empty. We were surprised to find they were having a free gospel sing Saturday evening. They had a very good group called Exodus. Sunday we met the previous owners of the park at church.
7-20/24-2009 Bowling Green Ohio - FMCA Rally. We are members of the Family Motor Coach Association and since they were having their national rally at Bolling Green State College about the same time we would be passing near there we decided to attend. There were about 2,700 coaches in attendance. They were parked all over the campus and many of the seminars and events were held at various places across campus. The distance wasn't bad except when it was raining. Weather and all we had a pleasant time there and visited with some friends who spend winters in FL and summers in OH.
Max: They had the nerve to leave me for hours Ice Cream Social
One afternoon during the Rally they had an ice cream social this is just a few of the people attending. at a time while they went off on their bicycles. One day when they weren't gone they took me for a hair cut. I'm sure glad it was only a few days before we left this place and moved on where they spent more time with me.
7-24/26-2009 Clyde, Ohio - Leafy Oaks Campground. While in Clyde we visited the near by Rutherford B. Hayes Library. They had all the gowns worn by First Ladys for the inauguration of their husbands, as well as many other items from his term in office. We drove around the area and enjoyed some down time.
7-27/28-2009 Hubbard Ohio - Hubbards Haven Campground. This was mostly a relaxing stop but we did visit some with our neighbor in the park who was able to tell us about their experience with satilite TV. Since public TV went digital we often get only one station or none at all. The big thing I miss is when Max gets me up at 6 AM to feed him I usually watch the morning news and weather.
7-29/8-4-2009 Curwensville, PA - Waggoner's Campground. We finally got up to visit Mom.
Last night's entertainment
We were supposed to have entertainment each night of the rally but one night got rained out so the last night they had it in doors. When we got here Mom had received our mail so we spent much of that day processing a month's mail. We went blackberry picking one day and Durham fell down a hill, thank goodness he didn't get seriously hurt or break his glasses. My brother Shannon and his wife Karen took us out to an Amish area in western PA where we saw them raking hay and had an excellent dinner. We also got to visit with my other brother John and his wife Shirley a couple times and attended the County Fair. We even got to visit our
favorite winery. Over all it was an excellent visit.
8-5-2009 Lake Wallenpaupack, PA - Ledgedale Recreation Area. We stopped here for the night, not fancy but good for one night. We drove around the campground and found a fawn lying very near a travel trailer. The trailer appeared not to be in use, probably there for weekend use. Later as we were relaxing in the coach a deer wandered through the grounds in front of us. We had a pleasant evening before getting back on the road.
8-6-2009 West Wellington, CT - Moose Meadow Campground. Another
Mom & I
We seemed prone to forget to take pictures of family while we were visiting but we did get this one of my mother and I but none of either brother or their wives. one nighter but we want to get to Mark's for the weekend. The campground is nice and the neighbors are friendly but we must move on in the morning.
8-7/10-2009 Kingston NH - Mill Brook RV. We arrived to find out there was a local festival this weekend, we'll have to check it out later. Mark came over after we got set up and we all went to the festival. We decided not to stay for the fireworks but heard some of them from camp. We decided to check out a blueberry festival Saturday. We put the best address we could get in the GPS and started out. The GPS took us down into Mass. on interstates. We decided we would rather use backroads got off the interstate, reset the GPS and tried again. After a couple hours driving we actually stopped to ask directions. By this point the GPS got confused and had sent us around the same streets 3 times before we got out of the loop. After traveling about 3 hours we finally arrived but the festival was about over. At least it only took us about an hour to get home. Sunday after church
Deer in Camp
We were spending the night at a rustic campground in north east PA where this deer wandered through the campground. Mark called to tell us he had lunch ready. We went over and found lobster rolls ready to eat.(they were delicious). We spent about the next 4 hours showing Mark pictures we had taken and talking about places we'd been and things we'd seen. It was a very pleasant afternoon. Mark decided to take Monday off so we could go to the New Hampshire beaches. It was a very pleasant day and we saw some small stone formations that were very interesting. After we got back to his apartment his landlady, Sandy, took us all for a boat ride on the lake, it's actually called Country Pond. We had greatly enjoyed our visit but had to go back to camp to prepare to leave the next morning.
8-11/13-2009 Westover Air Reserve Base, MA - FamCamp. We decided that on the way to spend the weekend with my sister in New York we would spend a couple days at the last base I was assigned to when I was on active duty. It was very strange to be approaching the base and not recognize anything. Of course it had been about 40 years since I was last there
Mark & Durham
We really enjoyed our visit with Mark at his new place in New Hampshire. and I found out that it had been closed as an active military base about 2 years after I left. We drove around some the next couple days and I was able to identify the building I had worked in and eventually found where the baracks I stayed in were but we couldn't get close enough to actually see the exact building. This was a very interesting experience after so long.
Well we will be home before I get this published but I plan to work hard to finish the trip this weekend so I'll probably see some of you before you get the last installment
