jeez "These aren't the Americans you're looking for. You can go about your business."
I tried finding a youtube clip so Mom could get the reference but the only ones I found had all the CGI crap from the special edition— which made me too sad along the same lines. "Materially rich" unnecessary trappings clouding the original point!
Ireland, India and the Empire I think maybe you are dancing and singing and making up tall tales..... though it has been said "'Those Englishmen who know something about India, are even now those who understand Ireland best." John Stuart Mill 1868
religion I have been reading your points of views from your country as you explore mine. As per as religion goes,I feel its the worst thing humans created which divides them like nothing else. May be there was a requirement in stone/medieval ages when some wise (relative to that time, not now) men (like the messiahs) thought it would be beneficial to weave the uneducated and barbarian people in a fabric/group by the help of it, but in modern world (educated/enlightened with science) it turns out to be an absolute corrosive to human progress(as in science) as it does not match the intellectual standards of modern day man; and some evil minded people ( and some really stupid people) for power and pleasure (be it mental/monetary or any other form) have been taking full advantage. Most of us 'other mortals' just blindly follow the herd without ever questioning as we have seen our parents do the same and are too afraid to step out of the boundaries of non-reasoning.
Ha! I'm glad that the hat went to good use. Bellingham just isn't the same without you and you are greatly missed, but I'm glad your trip has been so rewarding- safe travels!
caritas you are experiencing the essence of caring. you are responding to people as persons, seeing their needs you feel human sympathy and then act with helpful kindness.
some will name this the divinely inspired virtue of charity, others will call it being fully human. whatever its name or source it gives meaning to life.

Ghandi on Ramanama "When a child, my nurse taught me to repeat Ramanama whenever I felt afraid or miserable, and it has been second nature with me with growing knowledge and advancing years. I may even say that the Word is in my heart, if not actually on my lips, all the twenty-four hours. It has been by saviour and I am ever stayed on it. In the spiritual literature of the world, the Ramayana of Tulsidas takes a foremost place. It has charms that I miss in the Mahabharata and even in Valmiki's Ramayana"
floods these floods are terrible and widespread. Project Concern International, UNICEF, Doctors without Borders, Save the Children and Catholic Relief Services are in the area working with local organizations and can take online donations.

faith in humanity perhaps the confusion caused by ambiguity gives you more faith humans can solve conflict because the curious child was a Zen or Jedi master
"Where the mind is without fear
and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been
broken up into fragments by
narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from
the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches
its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason
has not lost its way into the dreary
desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is lead forward by thee
into ever-widening thought and action-
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father,
let my country awake."
