Traveling to Europe for 3 weeks...a trip of a lifetime!

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini June 11th 2010

It’s now Friday afternoon around 3:30 and I’m just about to get ready to head to a nearby town for sushi! I know some of you are thinking sushi in Greece?! But I’ve read a lot of reviews about this place, and it’s supposed to be amazing, and I’ve kind of been craving sushi this whole trip but haven’t let myself indulge because I knew I’d be having it here. Anyway, before I head out for sushi I’ll tell you about my last couple of days. Yesterday, for some crazy reason I was awake at 6:30am! So I decided it would be a good time to go out an snap some photos, and it was, there was no one around. I basically had Oia to myself, besides the store owners getting ready for the day. I ... read more

If there is one, I think I’ve found it! After spending less than 24 hours in Athens, Greece I hopped on a short 45 minute flight to Santorini, Greece…the most amazing place I’ve ever been to. It’s absolutely breathtaking. The sun is always shining, bright and hot, the people are amazingly friendly and the food is fantastic! I think I’ve found my new favorite place to be, and I’ll definitely be coming back here again, soon. Once I arrived I had a car waiting for me at the airport to take me to my hotel, or villa. It was about a 30 minute drive from the airport on narrow, winding roads but with incredible views the whole way. I had a “bell hop” waiting for me as soon as the car arrived and he took my ... read more

…I saw so much! I only had two full days here, and they were packed full of site seeing and adventure! I arrived on Friday afternoon and grabbed a taxi to my hotel, checked in and then wandered to find my “bearings” and figure out where I was in relation to the train station so I could hop on a tour bus tomorrow. The days I’ve traveled tend to make me really tired, so I haven’t done much once I’ve gotten to a new city. So once I went back to my hotel I quickly made reservations at the Vatican to see the museum and the Sistine Chapel then went to the restaurant just outside my hotel called Mama Angela’s trattoria for dinner. I had traditional bruschetta, gnocchi, and white wine for dinner. Then chocolate mouse ... read more

Venice…where do I start! First of all, it took me an entire day to get there! I was supposed to arrive around 5pm but one of my trains was delayed and made an unexpected stop, at least unexpected to me, so I missed two of my connections. Once I arrived at the first station in Italy they told me I had to go back to France to exchange my ticket! Thankfully the first stop in France was only 15 minutes away, so I made my way there and they told me they couldn’t do anything because it was an Italian ticket! Ugh, come on, someone needs to help me here! So I went back to the Italian station with the intention of just buying new tickets and moving on. But I decided to explain one more ... read more

On Wednesday afternoon I arrived in Firenze, or Florence. This city is wonderful! I didn’t know this, but the city “symbol” is the Fleur de lis, and it’s everywhere! This is a town I know my Mom would have loved. There are little reminders of her everywhere. I smile every time I see a fleur de lis, cause it makes me think of her (it was her favorite symbol). On a map my hotel looks to be far away from the city center, but it’s actually nice 30 minute walk down the Arno River. That may be far to some, but I prefer to see the city on foot when I can. After I checked into my hotel I walked down the river to see just how far everything would be, and decided walking is going ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice May 31st 2010

Hello from Italy! I arrived in Venice, Italy very late last night, due to train delays. I’ll get to that in my next post, but now I’ll tell you all about my wonderful time in Nice, and my last night in Vence, France. On Saturday morning I meant to get up early, but ended up sleeping an hour or so later than I wanted. That was fine, I obviously needed the sleep! I eventually made my way to the bus stop, after grabbing a chocolate croissant, and was off to Nice for the day. The bus ride to Nice takes about an hour and it’s beautiful! With stops through the mountains to Cannes, I couldn’t ask for a better, or cheaper (1 Euro), ride to Nice. Once I arrived I just began to wander, which seems ... read more

A Wedding in Nice

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Vence May 29th 2010

Hello All- This update will be quick. I'm tired, it's late, and I have an early start and long day tomorrow! I will be sure to post soon about my last day in France. I spent the day in Nice, and it was wonderful. More details to come. I'm off to Venice, Italy tomorrow and I can't wait! I'm not sure if i'll have internet in Venice, or in Florence, i'm just waiting to hear back from both hotels regarding that. If I don't have it at the hotels I will try to find a cafe with wifi, otherwise I will post when I get to Rome next week. I hope you are all enjoying your Memorial Day weekend!... read more

After yesterday I felt I need to allow myself to sleep in a while this morning. Sadly sleeping in for me these days means getting up at 8:30! I took my time getting ready for the day then set out to find some breakfast. Because I didn’t leave my hotel until 11, it was just about lunch time here so I just grabbed a chocolate croissant and walked through St Paul de Vence. A beautiful, old, walled in town that’s heaven for an artist like me. There are little studios and galleries around every corner, and through just about every door. It is so inspirational to see a place like this. I didn’t find any pottery studios, but maybe I wasn’t looking in the right places, cause there was pottery being sold in just about every ... read more

Ready for Vence

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Vence May 27th 2010

Wow! That’s all I have to say about today. I’m exhausted and I feel like I’ve barely done anything. It’s about 6pm and I just arrived at my hotel in Vence, which is in between Nice and Cannes. I started my day with breakfast at my hotel in Villeneuve Lez Avignon then wandered over to the Thursday market that was near my hotel. It was lovely, and exactly what I expected. Although I didn’t expect to have a French man tell me that he loves me! I was just wandering through the market admiring everything that was for sale…from fruit, to herbs and spices, to fabric and table cloths when a man that was selling candy started to talk to me. He must have assumed I spoke English (probably because I looked like a tourist with ... read more

Bonsoir! (Good evening) After a 3 hours delay on the train yesterday I finally made it to Avignon, then with a 15 minute taxi ride I arrived at my hotel in Villeneuve Lez Avignon, a beautiful town just across the Rhone River from Avignon...the heart of Provence! I like to call my hotel "The Lyndee Hotel" because it looks like a hotel my Mom would have decorated, and LOVED! There are little reminders of her everywhere and I love it! I smile every time a thought of her pops into my head. So many people said this would be such a healing experience for me, and they were so right! Once I arrived at my hotel I dropped off my luggage and went out to wander the little town. There are many narrow, brick paved streets ... read more
