We headed off to Sinchon in Seoul for the amazing sushi buffet. All you can eat for 10 000 won :) Not to be put off by the rain...after the buffet we did a bit of shopping in sinchon and walked all the way up to Ehwa Women's University to do more shopping in the Edae area. We headed back to Hongdae and grabbed some baked chicken in a little Korean pub before making our way back to Hapjeong to catch the 2200 bus.... read more

Spent the day at the Village- mom dad and blake came to see some of the classes: immigration, creative kids and kindy music. The day was finished off with a housewarming for the new apartment... including soju, mekju (beer) and some south african treats ;)... read more

Today we took a 20 min cab into Ilsan and headed to La Festa and Western Dom. These are two vibey shopping/eating areas that the inhabitants of English Village often frequent. Of course there was plenty of shopping to be done...so mom and I did our thing while the boys hit some balls in a baseball batting cage and got started on the beer outside the local family mart. Once mom and I were all shopped out, we all took a trip down "meat-street" and settled for a galbi meal - barbequed meat that you cook and eat at the table. As with any Korean meal the galbi of course comes with many sides including a cold seaweed soup, kimchi, hot jiggae soup, radishes, garlic, lettuce and an egg/tofu dish. We decided to try and experience some authentic Korean culture and made our way to the Gyeonbokgung Palace. the palace is filled with animal statues representing the different months and are said to protect the palace from evil spirits. we also had a tour through the national folk museum which highlighted the development of the Korean culture. we were able to try some Papbingso which is a mix of shaved ice, berries, cornflakes and icecream...and another other korean food which i dont know how to pronounce. we walked around the Art village area in Seoul and saw all the different and amazing Korean Style artwork. The Korean food vendors on the side of the round all had different and unusual foods so we couldnt help but stop to try and sample a variety of the side-walk ... read more

We took a bus to Hapjeong Station and walked to Hongdae-a student area for some shopping and Korean food (Hongik University Subway Station). After Hongdae we took a trip to Dongdaemun where had some Kimbap (Korean-type Sushi) Mandu (pork filled dumplings and Dukbokgee (Korean rice cakes in a spicy sauce). mmm.. delicious! Mom was introduced to the wonders of cheap Korean shopping... Hello APM.. and GOODMORNING CITY.. two 6 storey stores jam packed with clothing deals and great bargains :) yay for Korean shopping! :)... read more

The family arrives in Paju South Korea...and get the grand tour of English Village. Mom, dad and Blake get the full english village experience and head down to Jjokki jjoki's - the local pub for a soju cocktail and some korean bar snacks :) ... read more
