31st December - got to Copenhagen safely after the train and boat journey!.. and again, much to my delight... SNOW!! and Fred to meet us! In the afternoon it was just catching up time with Fred and grabbing the last minute things we needed for our duties of punch making and preparations for our NY's celebrations at her friend Karma's uni dorm. Things that the NY's uni party consisted of.... 8 floors in the university dorm 4 kitchens on each floor a dinner party at almost every kitchen (ours consisted of about 15 people) the roof offered the best spot for [View Full Entry]

Berlin

Europe » Germany » District of Berlin » Berlin
28th December - Departing a little after lunch time and arriving late afternoon in Berlin.. we only had time to really settle in and grab a cocktail or two at the Palm Beach Bar close by. Although this was definetly long enough to establish that it was FAR colder in Berlin and that they had had a significant amount of snow fall!.. not yet preparing us for the weather the following day though! 29th December - I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO COLD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!! Today the temperature was -4 degrees celcius as a maximum temp! (which i was later [View Full Entry]

26th December - Boxing Day! We left Paris today by train and headed to Bruchsal in Germany to meet up with Stephanie (a beautiful girl who I worked with at Perth Zoo), however due to technology and a mis-punch in the telephone number we hadn't quite made contact with each other when we arrrived so a night in one of the only two hotels in this little snow capped village was the go!.. although i think because we were non-German and late arrivals we got special hiked up prices along with an early check out and no breakfast.. oh well, it [View Full Entry]

Christmas in Paris

 Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris
With the need to really just get out of London for a bit over the festive season, the decision was made to head through to Europe with the hope of the increased chance of seeing snow falling. Accompanying me was one of my house mates Kristy, a 20 year old Sydney-sider who arrived in London within a couple weeks of my arrival in mid September. The plan was to head to Paris for Christmas, through Germany and up to Copenhagen for New Years and a night in Amsterdam on the way back. I have previously visited Amsterdam and Paris and a [View Full Entry]

Having visited London for several days either side of a European Contiki Tour last year I have previously covered all the main sights that are central, like the Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, a couple museums, Piccadilly & St Paul’s Cathedral, so there has been no need for special trips into town to see them again as yet. However it did take a couple months before I actually made it back into Central London and this was done on a Monopoly Pub Crawl (for Janelle Booth’s heading home party) which was fabulously organised and had to run on clockwork in order to [View Full Entry]

Right, well as you may have guessed I've made it to the balmy warm city of London and at the best time of year for hitting the beaches!!!... this could not be further from the truth!.... I have now been here for some time after landing mid September so there is a bit to catch up on, therefore I have two Blog entries for the last few months with this one on general life and survival in London and the next on .. well, just being here and things that we’ve managed to get up too... so here it goes.. The view that was all well worth it at the top of Montserrat!
......and continue to do so for several nights as this city knows how to party! With Barcelona's La Rambla coming alive from 11pm, there are many travellers earning a quick buck dishing out drink and entry vouchers for the plethera of pubs and clubs!.... which means.. great deals for us other travellers that are a little short of Euros that don't have the time to work, but rather party a little bit instead! There are living statues sprayed silver and blue, covered in glitter with wings or in smart tuxedo even hiding in boxes just to startle the unassuming passers by, [View Full Entry]

After the tomato fest that Valencia was, it was time for a road trip for a couple of days with Claire and Neill to the next coastal town on the map... Alicante!.. and our main purpose here is to do nothing but enjoy the beach! Situated about 2 hours south of Valencia, Alicante is a decent sized town with the main street called, La Rambla (like many main streets in the cities of Spain) that has many bars selling tapas & sangria, no shortage of gelari and crepes and little stalls that come out at night set up down closer to [View Full Entry]

After an 11 hour flight from Bangkok and a 13 hour lay over in Heathrow airport (which i must say is the worst airport for layovers of that magnitude!.. no bench seats that i could find apart from gate 1 terminal 2, and no showers to be heard of!!! ) I landed in Valencia with my one lucky US dollar .... and it paid off today!.. after realising that no other country other than Thailand likes or exchanges Thai Baht and the ATMS not working in the airport.... and looking stupid to the lady behind the currency exchange counter when i [View Full Entry]
