We could not have got a better day for our short trip into St-Tropez to spend some time with the rich and famous, if we recognise anyone who is rich and famous! The sky is perfectly clear overhead and the sun’s rays slowly spreading over the terrace in front of the mobile home just in time for breakfast. It had been a comfortable night and sure the bed was one of those of fashioned doubles, we managed. The shower however was another matter. We really can’t stand the showers we have had where there is nowhere to hang the shower head so you can wash yourself without having to pick up and put down the shower head while you soap yourself up. We have only had a couple and both times they have been in tight ... read more

Everyone knows that song, ‘Do you know the Way to St-Tropez’. Well at least that is the way that that song made famous by Dionne Warwick in 1968,has been going through our heads since we put St-Tropez onto our must visit list for the BBA V3.And today is the day we make to St-Tropez and not San Jose as the song title is really about. We said our thank you’s and goodbyes to Thomas, one of our host’s (Chantal must have been at work) and headed off towards Arles to get us on the right track to the Cote d’Azure. We hoped that Gina had plotted a path that would take us around Marseille, which is a large and busy city with a substantial amount of industry and a large seaport which would probably mean significant ... read more

The weather has been progressively improving each day and this morning it was fine overhead but without a bit of direct sun onto the partly covered patio it was still just a bit too cool to be sitting out there having breakfast. We would love to spend more time chasing down sights of flamingos going about their day and if we do happen across some in the wild while we head off to visit a couple of towns and their sights then we will stop to record their antics. However we learnt about an ancient walled town that has been very well preserved and we plan a visit there after taking in another town closer by with a walking trail that sounds interesting as it reveals history of living in the Camargue. The town of Aimargues ... read more

It is amazing how the dirty washing creeps up on us and it was time to get the washing bag out and get the clothes through the machine and out onto the line so we could get out exploring the Camargue and find ourselves some flamingos. Thankfully the washing machine in the apartment had a shorter cycle than most of the other front loaders we have had to use and the washing was done in reasonably short time. The sky had started out quite clear this morning but had clouded over a bit as we prepared to set off for the afternoon after a lunch of rather tasteless French made baked beans. Despite the fact that they have plenty of red and tasty tomatoes in this country they haven’t as yet worked out that you need ... read more

Compared to the last couple of days in Spain the weather here in France has improved. There is still the high overcast but at least the rain is staying way which will make sightseeing tolerable and avoid the need to decide whether to get wet or not when we stop. Sleep came easily last night and we slept in very well with the shutters down. The sight of a fine sky albeit with some very high overcast raised the spirits as we had breakfast. It wasn’t quite warm enough to have breakfast on the terrace but we are sure that will come soon for us on a regular basis. We had a Skype with our very good friends Ruth and Owen back in Tauranga and it was good to catch up with them and their news. ... read more

The BBA V3 has come to the end of the adventure around Spain and we have certainly covered at least the coastal part with a little interior driving as well. We came to Spain without any real idea of how we would enjoy the sights and travel and leave with a mixed feeling of being pleased to have seen and taken in the history where we travelled but also a bit disappointed with the sameness of some of the scenery. Mind you we are spoilt coming from such a scenic country as New Zealand has a deserved reputation for. We caught the flu in Santiago and that didn’t help our mindset for a week or so and our time in Portugal suffered because of that although we were lifted during our short time near Nazare where ... read more

Today is the day we would really like some dry weather and preferably with some sunshine. We are visiting Montserrat which is at an altitude of 1450 metres above sea level inland from Barcelona and if there is any rain about then the views are likely to be diminished. The forecast looks reasonable with a few showers around in the morning so we have our fingers crossed. We rejoined the N340 after leaving L’Ampolla. Our night in the mobile home had been a better experience than the time in the cramped one we had in Granada. We headed inland at Salou, just short of Tarragona, having made very good progress on a double laned highway. The double laned highway continued on to Valls where it was time to fill the petrol tank. Here we had another ... read more

The cool, moist weather system that has been spiralling off the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula for the last month is still there and now starting to affect the weather on the eastern side of the peninsula which earlier had been unaffected. While we haven’t had any rain to speak of for the last few days it has been overcast and cooler than we experienced in southern Spain and that was continuing today. We filled up with cheap petrol at Intermarche where at least the automated card reader worked not like the one down the road yesterday. The N340 was the old main road on the eastern coast of Spain before the toll road was built and is in good condition and allows us to enjoy the countryside and small towns it passes through where ... read more

Europe » Spain » Valencian Community » Sagunto May 6th 2016

We have probably said this before but sometimes the best finds we have made for sightseeing in Spain have been the lesser advertised places and so it turned out for our visit to nearby Sagunto. It was as quiet as we thought it might be in our isolated and unoccupied neighbourhood and we managed to over sleep again. Not that we are planning to go far today. We decided to contact our hosts, who live in the township of Pucol, if we hadn’t heard from them by midday regarding the internet availability as we are already having withdrawal symptoms and we have only being without contact to the outside world for 12 hours! After breakfast we took a stroll down to the beach and a walk along the promenade. All is ready for the summer influx ... read more

It has been a good stay in ‘the cave ‘and it wasn’t really as bad as some of the reviewers on booking.com made out. We are going to continue the trend of not staying in the big cities and this time actually head past Valencia for Pucol. We continued up the N332 which is the road that bought us into Torrevieja and this road should take us all the way to the outskirts of Valencia at least. After we cleared the built up area the surrounding land was quite rural and with a good number of trucks in both directions there were a number of ‘girls’ on the side of the road waiting for some business to come along from a truck driver. We have never actually seen any of them do business but who knows ... read more
