We left Krabi on a minibus for our flight from Phuket. The drive took 2 and a half hours and was possibly one of the most terrifying experiences of our entire trip! Safe driving isn't exactly a Thai specialty and our driver was no exception! He felt the need to overtake everything on a bend, and when it poured down with rain and could barely see out of the windscreen, he sped up! We did manage to arrive in 1 piece and had a bit of a wait in Phuket airport until our tiny plane to Samui was ready. It was only a 40 minute flight but we did get tiny sandwiches to go with the tiny plane! We found a cheap hotel room in Chaweng and settled in for the night. We were just saying ... read more

Sorry about the lack of pictures but the computers here are a little dodgy and we dont want to risk another virus on the memory card! Will put them up when we get home. We caught a Ferry to Ko Phi Phi from Phuket on the morning of the 6th. It took about 2 hours to get there but the views were amazing. We were slightly annoyed when we found out that we had been overcharged for our tickets! However we did make some news friends on the Ferry, Jen and Jill from Canada. When we arrived we all shared a Longtail Taxi boat to Long Beach to search for some cheap accommodation. We found a place that had some beach huts, they were the cheapest on the island but weren't all that cheap really (500B). ... read more

It only took 2 hours to get to Bangkok from Singapore but we still got a meal, good old Singapore Airlines! We got a taxi to our hotel with a very excitable taxi driver who loved football and was talking about Teddy Sheringham being the old Tottenham captain! When we arrived we had a few issues as our friends Ross & Kay had booked our room for us as they checked in earlier that day. They were supposed to meet us in the lobby but our flight was delayed so they weren't there when we got there. The staff on reception couldn't comprehend this so we had to search through the list of check in's and found what room they were in. They tried calling their room but there was no answer. We thought they might ... read more

We arrived in Singapore after a 7 and a half hour flight, we boarded thinking it was 6 hours as we were wrongly advised there was only a 1 hour time difference between there and Brisbane, grr..... Anyway it wasn't a bad flight, there were lots of films to watch, they fed us twice and they kept bringing round hot towels! We landed at 8:15 and it was still 28 degrees outside. Singapore Airport was the best and most organised airport that we have experience so far, it took 2 mins to get through Immigration and Customs and they even gave us mints! This was a nice change from the shambolic queues getting out of Brisbane airport! We had a bit of a tedious train journey to our hostel however, had to change twice (its quite ... read more

After a wonderful 14 hour overnight bus trip we arriver in Rainbow Beach. We found our hostel, which was conveniently across the road, had breakfast and sat watch Transformers for a couple hours untill we were actually able to check into our room. We had to go to a meeting at 2 to meet our group for the Fraser Island trip. We had to watch a couple DVDs about driving safely and not feeding the Dingo's before being sent off with our group to buy food for 3 days. This took a while as there were 9 of us and we all had to try and plan meals etc... We took full advantage of the free BBQ at the hostel that night but fell asleep by 7.30 due to the lack of sleep from the 14 ... read more

After a very long trip we arrived in Cairns. We had a 4 hour flight to Melbourne where we had to wait for 4 hours and then had a 5 hour flight to Cairns, luckily we slept a lot of the way. Crazy timezones meant we went 2 hours ahead of Perth in Melbourne and then an hour back again when we got to Cairns! We arrived to find it absolutely pouring with rain. We had to make a run for it from the plane to find shelter, collected our wet luggage and found our shuttle bus to the hostel. Joe had to get his dive medical this day so there was no time for rest and he headed off into town. Kim fell back to sleep and woke up when he returned a couple of ... read more

G'Day from WA!

Before we left for our West Coast adventure we tried our hand at Boomerang painting! We were given the workshop free after we booked some trips for the East Cost. We were there nice and early, as we had to check our that day anyways, and had the whole place to ourselves for quite a while. We were given plain boomerangs and lots of designs and symbols to look at so that we could choose a design. We were told how the Aboriginal people use the designs to tell a story and therefore we decided to tell the story of our trip so far. We traced the outline of the boomerang onto paper first so that we could have a go at a few designs and once we were happy start the painting. We had to ... read more

Our 12 hour bus ride from Sydney to byron bay wasn't as bad as we though, probably due to the fact the we slept pretty much all the way! We did make a stop at a survise station made to look like Ayres Rock and another with a giant Prawn on top..... Other than that it was sleeping all the way! We arrived in byron Bay at 10:30am and were kindly picked up by the hostel and given a little tour of the town. The beach was 30 seconds walk straight out of the back of the hostel which was amazing. We spent the afternoon laying on the beach and swimming in the sea, its such a hard life! This prettymuch set the tone for our first few days in Byron. The town itself is small ... read more

Although this is the Blue Mountains / Australia Day blog, Joe can't begin without mentioning his best morning of the trip so far. Waking up at 6.30am to watch football is plain wierd, but it was so worth it to watch Tottenham annihilate Arsenal 5 -1. We're going to Wembley!!! Anyway back to the less important stuff.... We checked out of our room at Base with its creaky beds, rattling windows and resident ants and caught the train up to Katoomba in the Blue Mountains. It was a pretty easy 2 hour trip and arrived at the hostel just after lunch time. We were waiting for the hostel owner to come and check us in when this dodgy bloke in a boiler suit walked past. Kim thought he was the owner and said "Hi!!!" in a ... read more

Sydney

We arrived in Sydney at 10:15pm and after checking into our hostel decided to go for a bit of a walk around. We walked straight down to Circular Quay and saw the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge all lit up at night which was amazing. The next day we asked reception if they had any work available and we got a job cleaning the kitchen at lunch time for free accomodation. It only takes 30 mins so its a bargin really! We spent our first day getting our bearings in the city and wondering around like proper tourists, pointing at things and taking pictures. The Harbour around the bridge and Opera House is really nice. There are quite a few parks that you can sit in and take in the views as well as different ... read more
