First of all apologies for the gap between the last Blog and this one, since our last Blog we have finished our whistle stop tour of Cambodia and have since returned to Thailand where we have headed for the famous Thai island of Koh Phi Phi. Phnom Penh - After leaving Siem Reap we headed to Phnom Penh where we only planned to spend a few days relaxing in some city life before travelling down towards the coast and the coastal town of Shianoukville. Unlike most people in Phnom Penh we weren’t really that interested to go and see the killing [View Full Entry]

Blog 14 - Siem Reap and Angkor Wat After a few days on Koh Chang and our visa running out fast we headed for the Thailand/Cambodia border at Poipet from where we had arranged to take a bus up to Siem Reap in North West Cambodia, home to the magnificent Angkorian Temples of Angkor Wat. Poipet is very uneasy on the eyes, ears and nose, a dirty festering border town full of casinos and cheap hotels for those unfortunate enough to be stuck there after the border crossing has closed for the day. Luckily for us we arrived around midday and [View Full Entry]

Blog 13 - Koh Chang and the Elephants! After the craziness of Bangkok we only had a few days left on our Thai visa so decided to head to the island of Koh Chang before facing the land border crossing into Cambodia. After a 4 hour bus ride and a half hour ferry journey we arrived on the island of Koh Chang, there is so many different places to stay on this mountainous island and nearly all the beaches to stay have a wide selection of accommodation to chose from. We decided to stay on white sands beach as we were [View Full Entry]

So, after a quick stint on two of the many tropical islands that Thailand has to offer, we took a two and a half hour ferry from Koh Tao to Chumpon on the East coast of Thailand. Here we had an hours rest until we boarded the 8pm night bus to Bangkok. I (Lucy) was extremely happy as it meant that I was getting closer to the famous markets that everyone who has been there has been telling me about! The journey was not too bad at all, we had one stop at midnight at Hua Hin where there were approximately [View Full Entry]

Lucy's First attempt at a solo Blog - Island hopping in Thailand Koh Samui So, after a week in Penang, we left early on Sunday morning with Ben's keys in hand and boarded the ridiculously tiny mini bus bound for Hat Yai, just over the south border of Thailand to then catch a connecting bus and ferry to Koh Samui, Bens temporary home land. To say that we were squashed in the back of the bus is a little bit of an understatement, but after 2 hours of whirring along the roads of Malaysia, we finally arrived at the Malay - [View Full Entry]

After a 6 hour drive from the east coast of Malaysia we arrived in the bustling port city of Georgetown on Pulau Penang. We had decided in Kota Bharu that we would cross the Thai/Malay border in Penang as it seemed like a lovely place to see and a last bit of Malay culture before we started our time in Thailand. The border crossing is also much safer as there are still foreign office reports advising against crossing the border at Rantau Panjang. Penang, like most of Malaysia is a cultural mix of Chinese, Indian and Malaysian. Strolling through the various [View Full Entry]

Since our last blog entry we flew back into Malaysia and spent a few days in Kuala Lumpur before then taking a 7 hour bus journey to Kuala Terengganu. We stayed one night in Terengganu (having the most amazing food in a local ’kitchen area’ which cost hardly anything!) before hopping over to the stunningly beautiful island paradise of Pulau Kapas which is just off the east coast of Malaysia. After much reading and deciding I (Andy) came to the conclusion that I would like to spend my birthday on Pulau Kapas which is an unknown to both of us and [View Full Entry]

After a hectic week or so in Kuta we decided that it was time for another slice of island life. There are not too many options around Bali itself and as we only have a week left in Indonesia we decided on the near by island of Nusa Lembongan, famous for its awesome surf breaks, all of which have very appealing names like ship wrecks and lacerations……. Needless to say we didn’t try our hands at surfing as it was well out of our league! Nusa Lembongan is also well known for its diving, with one dive site in particular being [View Full Entry]

Kuta and around Asia » Indonesia » Bali » Kuta
Next on our Asian adventure was the hard task of tearing ourselves away from the idyllic paradise of the Gili Islands and head to the manic surfers paradise of Kuta in Bali. After spending 2 ½ hours on a fast boat bouncing off every single wave that the captain could find and Lucy starting to turn a pale shade of green, we arrived at Benoa harbour in Bali where we were whisked into the crazy mixer which is Poppies Gang 1 in Kuta. In contrast to the quiet laid back way of life in the Gili Islands this was a huge [View Full Entry]

The Gili Islands are just off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia and consists of 3 jewels that rise out of the crystal azure waters into 3 specs of island paradise. Each of these spectacular islands have their own unique character, Gili Trawangan (other wise known as Gili T) is renowned for it’s surf breaks and non stop party atmosphere, offering all the home comforts any weary traveller could ask for, Gili Meno offers a tranquil peaceful atmosphere which is created for rest and relaxation and finally Gili Air which is a gentle mix of the other 2 islands.
