We are back.... and I have an apology to make ... I am SORRY PHUKET... Last year I never gave you enough credit... I hated you, but that has all changed after 3 short nights... :-) From Phuket Town we headed straight to Patong.. and a few nights on much needed luxury at the Holiday Inn.. WOW! This place is really great.... as nice as Merlin Beach Resort was last year, it still seemed a little overpriced, and the remoteness (along with their taxi mafia) left me with a not so great impression... Holiday Inn on the other hand.. well.. it has my vote! It was smack bang in the middle of Patong Beach RIGHT across the road from the AMAZING OTop Markets, and the beach... the staff were fantastic, the rooms beautiful and we totally ... read more

Hello everyone... We are finally back to civilisation and have had an amazing time since I last wrote... Last time I wrote we were still on Ko Pha-ngan... and getting to Khao Lak was not without its funny moments (this is Thailand!!). We stayed overnight in Thong Sala, and got the 7am ferry (choosing the Raja car ferry as its BIG).. The crossing was not too bad, but by the time we reached Surat Thani it was pelting down rain... quite funny seeing us bolt off an unsteady boat in the pouring rain with 20+ kilos on our backs for a bus! Once settled on the bus we had the 'same same' experience of them trying to sell us tickets to Khao Lak on 'their VIP bus' but we were determined to get the public bus... ... read more

I promise this will not be a long blog, but there will be lots of crazy photos!! On the 24th we finally got to attend the full moon party! I was a bit wary as to what to expect, having heard the numerous stories of it being an 18 years old's paradise... however we had managed to round up some people in the 'older' age bracket off Trip Advisor before we left and so were feeling confident we could tackle it head on with a group of us... and tackle it we did!! The night started at the Outback Bar. This was our pre-arranged meeting point, and typically Rinna and I were first there.. we started with some Pimms n Lemonade. When McKay, Matt, Julian and Dennis rocked up we got them on the Pimms too, ... read more

Hello everyone Well we are finally down south in the Islands at Ko Phangan, relaxing on the beach with cocktails in hand... it really is the life! So what have we been up to since we last left you? Lots of drama... lots of relaxing... Rinna has even managed to read the first 2 books of her life!! We had quite a fun day in Bangkok during our quick stopover... first we dropped our luggage to the train station then we caught the subway/skytrain to a shopping centre called Siam Paragon. Very posh, but it had a massive food court, and more importantly a cinema... yep we decided it was time to hightail it to a cinema and have some chill out time! First stop however was the food court (surprise surprise right!). I had the ... read more

Or as Rinna affectionately calls it ... Stubbtoesville.... Rinna and the footpaths of Chiang Rai do not agree with each other... there has been blood, sweat and tears... several times! Sooooo after we hightailed it out of Laos we headed over the border to the dodgy little town of Chiang Khong which we promptly realised had no money exchanges open on a Sunday.. kind of a problem when all you have are travelers cheques... luckily the 2nd ATM machine we found was working, we loaded up on Baht and decided to be stubborn "NO WE DON'T WANT A TUK TUK" and walk the 2.5kms to the bus station (Like we hadn't had enough walking that morning hiking out of the jungle!) - our sole intention to hightail it straight to Chiang Rai where we were due ... read more

Hello again, On the 16th we set off on what was going to be the most amazing experience of our trip so far, and we both were nervous but excited... we were off on the 'Gibbon Experience'. Now alot of you already know what it is about but for those that don't, here is a brief rundown.... What is the Gibbon Experience? The Gibbon Experience is set in the Bokeo Nature Reserve in Laos, about a 3 hour drive from Huay Xui. The first half of the trip is on normal but very windy roads, the second half is pretty much a 4WD track which is alot of fun! Poaching, logging and slash/burn farming is the main source of income for the tribes people that inhabit the Bokeo Province. This is obviously destroying primary forest and ... read more

Hi everyone, Its been a long time since our last blog and alot has happened... This blog covers the Luang Prabang and Slow Boat part of our trip: Freezing our a$$es off in South East Asia! Well its been a loooooong cold few days.... and we cannot believe we are in the tropics of Laos! It is freezing.. seriously.... Luang Prabang was lovely. A quaint little town listed as a world heritage site, full of cafes, bakeries and tuktuks.... we had a good time, but it could have been great had the weather played ball with us! It is sooooo cold.. you cannot imagine how much so! I bought a Beer Lao hooded sweater in Vang Vieng and I seriously have not taken it off since.... I have slept in it every night.. along with long ... read more

Bounbouie means 'fat' but as our lovely guesthouse Ong tells us we are 'bounbouie but beautiful'.... LOL.. and so another day dawns in Laos! Caves, Cement Mattresses & A Whole Load of Fun We decided to have a chilled out day and do tubing the following day, so we packed our bags and headed to Babylon Guesthouse for the next two nights. A room wasnt ready so we dumped our bags and headed upstairs for our free internet (a perk of being a guest here!)... after catching up with some email we decided to hire a motorbike and head out into the countryside to explore some caves! The ride out to the first cave was hilarious.. we were riding out amongst some rice paddy fields and there were these little speed bumps along the trail.. on ... read more

Well we have had a crazy few days since the last blog... its hard keeping up with everything we have done! We have had so many moments where we have just looked at each other and said 'what the hell have we gotten ourselves into?!' - at least all we have done is laugh about it!! Floating Markets & Railway Markets We were up on the 6th at 5.30am for a day tour with Tong and a couple from Melbourne (Alisha & Justin)... way too early considering the night before... First stop was a little market place just outside of Bangkok which is known as the Railway Market. It is basically a little local market (no tourists) which is held ON a railway track... a train comes through about 8 times per day and the locals ... read more

Hello, and welcome to our first 'official' blog... Soooo.... here we are... a few days into the trip and what an adventure.... where do I start? Day 1 - My Fear of Flying Has Not Subsided We left Adelaide to an almost uneventful flight.. halfway down the runway on takeoff in Adelaide all the overhead luggage compartments decided to pop down.. I am freaking out thinking the plane is going to fall to bits, and insane people are up out of their seats shutting them... what are they doing?! apart from that a bit of turbulence, a couple of alcoholic drinks, and plenty of boredom.... The Uno cards came out at the 5 hour mark.... and I got my ass flogged. We landed in Singapore to pouring rain, spent a couple of hours with crampy bellys, ... read more
