Well this will be our last blog for a good while :( Last night we went up the Empire State Building. The queues weren't too bad. We paid extra to go up to the 102nd floor which wasn't really worth it. The best views were from the 86th floor as it's outside. We got there just in time to see the sunset which was great although the observatory was heaving and you had to really push to get near the edge to take photos. We got some good pics though and Manhattan truly is a sight to behold from above. We went to the top of the Rockefeller centre last time and we would say that you get a better experience up there as it's not so crowded. We went back to our hotel for something ... read more

So... Tuesday evening we went up to the roof terrace of our hotel for a few drinks only to discover that New York was in the throws of a very severe thunderstorm. It was fun to watch and when it eventually stopped we got some good pics of the Empire State Building which is on the next street to our hotel. We then decided to try an Italian restaurant that we had walked past earlier on. It looked pretty posh but we hadn't prepared ourselves for the very posh prices. We both ordered a 'first course' rather than a 'second course' as the second courses were all about $35. Karen managed to spill balsamic vinegar onto the table cloth and the waitress which didn't go down too well. The food wasn't the best we've had so ... read more

We arrived in La Guardia at about 1pm yesterday. We took a taxi from the airport to our hotel (Hotel Metro) which is on West 35th Street. It's a really nice hotel without being pretentious. There is a constant supply of fresh coffee in the foyer which pleased Karen. After unpacking we went to an Irish Bar just a few doors down to watch the end of the Spain match and grab a bite to eat. We then meandered up to Times Square which is probably only a 10 minute walk away at normal pace. It was too hot though to do anything but meander. Times Square is a crazy place but a sight to behold. There was a big yoga event going on in Father Duffy square - don't know how they could focus on ... read more

Our final weekend in Cincinnati has been lovely :) We arrived back at about 6pm on Friday night. We went to 'The Pub' for tea which is a 'typical' British pub... It was full of very loud drunk Americans and again the staff were wearing kilts (not as short as in the Tilted Kilt in Chicago). Saturday we all had a lie in (Rob managed to surface at about 2 minutes to midday). We then went back to Applebee's for lunch before heading to the cinema to see Toy Story 3 in 3D. WOW what a brilliant film. The cinema was really new with the comfiest seats ever - they even rocked! We saw some people buying buckets, literally buckets, of popcorn and coke. Just plain ridiculous. Saturday evening we went to the Cincinnati Gardens to ... read more

We started writing this blog at Chicago airport while we were waiting for our flight back to Cincy. Rob watched the first half of the England match there... On reflection it was probably good that we flew during the second half. Rubbish. Our last 24 hours in Chicago were brilliant. We didn't leave the hotel until about 1pm on Thursday after a lazy morning watching the Disney channel. We went back to the Eleven City Diner for brunch before wandering round Grant and Millennium Parks for most of the afternoon. It was really hot and sunny so we took it easy and stopped regularly for liquid refreshments - not beer for a change. Eventually we arrived at Millennium Park and had a couple of drinks in the bar and were treated to some free music by ... read more

The torrential rain on Tuesday night almost stopped us leaving the hotel but one drink in the hotel bar was enough to convince us that getting drenched would be worth it. Luckily the rain had stopped when we left the hotel. We spent the evening in Buddy Guy's Legends club. What a place. It was the grand opening party as they've moved to a new building. When we got there Jimmy Johnson was playing an acoustic set. We joined a guy called Jim on a table near the stage as we wanted something to eat. Jim was from Pittsburgh and told us that he had been coming to the club every year since 1990. He said that we might get a glimpse of Buddy Guy himself given that it was opening night - Jim said that ... read more

Chicago is fantastic! We're having a great time here :) We arrived a little behind schedule yesterday and got the train from the airport into town. It took us about an hour to get to our hotel which is right next door to an enormous Hilton and the contrast is funny. Our hotel has hideous carpets in the lobby and Bananarama were playing on the stereo when we arrived. Classy! Despite our initial impressions our room is fine with the biggest bed we've ever seen and the location is good. We quickly unpacked and then headed out to get some lunch. After lunch we wandered across to Millennium Park which is fantastic. The bean/peanut and the outdoor arena are spectacular. There are also some amazing fountains with peoples faces in which spit water at children (and ... read more

We're currently in the departure lounge at Cincinnati airport waiting for our flight to Chicago - we're very excited :) The last few days in Cincy have been more chilled. After the match on Saturday, which Rob was rather disappointed by, we went off to see Harry Connick Junior at the Riverbend PNC Pavillion. This is a covered outdoor arena and Saturday was the hottest (in the 90's) and most humid day yet so at first we were all really uncomfortable and pretty much everyone there was using any paper they had to create a fan. Harry was amazing - he sang lots of his songs and some great covers and also added in bits of comedy and stories about his family etc. He picked on people who were sat at the front and called one ... read more

Just in case any of you were confused by our last entry we wrote it one day and published it the next :) OK. So yesterday morning we went to the Creation Museum in Kentucky. This is basically a type of Mecca for Americans who are young earth Creationists. There were cars there from all over the States. The whole place is set up to support the view that the earth was created in 6 24-hour days and to disprove Evolution. They assert that the earth is only about 6 thousand years old and give loads of 'evidence' to prove this. Karen overhead one child say 'Mum I still don't understand abortion'. Mum's reply was 'honey you don't understand abortion because we don't believe in it'. One of the weirdest things was that Creationists believe that ... read more

We woke yesterday with the hope that the sun would shine so we could have a wander round Cincinnati, but it rained. When it rains here it tends to be in short heavy bursts with breaks in between, and that's exactly what it did when we began our afternoon out, we had a great lunch at an Italian restaurant called Brio's but while we were walking over the 'purple people bridge' back to the car it tipped it down and we got soaked! We therefore went back to Adventure Lane to dry off and on our journey back Zig showed us a few of the sights. When Ali got home from work the weather had cleared up so we went 'down town' to check out some free Reggae music in Fountain Square (Rob likes reggae). Before ... read more
