Well we made it home at about noon today! The flight from Singapore was 12 hours and 30 mins and pretty uneventful apart from the really loud noise that came from the panel just above our heads just after take off!! Karen managed to sleep for much of the flight so isn't feeling quite as jet-lagged as Rob! We had to connect to our Newcastle flight at Heathrow and were quite amazed how rude and patronising the security staff were - they were the worst we had met!! After such a long flight and hardly any sleep Rob had to be [View Full Entry]

Homeward bound! Asia » Singapore
Well the last 24 hours of the Wandering Wylie's big adventure has been much cheerier than we thought it would be! We are currently at Changi Airport waiting to fly home! It's the biggest airport we've ever seen! After we did our blog yesterday we wandered back to our hotel via Chinatown, stopping on the way for a coffee and to take some photos of Chinatown at sunset. We also had a giggle at some of the really cheesy souvenirs that were for sale. After we'd got changed we took the MRT (subway) to Raffles hotel for an obligatory if rather [View Full Entry]

Well we eventually left Sydney airport 3 and a half hours behind schedule! Just before we boarded the plane the TV screens at the gate were showing the news including coverage of the Qantas incident the day before (including pictures of the injured and the damage to the inside of the cabin) and pictures of another Qantas plane that had developed a hole in the side a few months ago. We had also just watched about 10 engineers working on one of the engines of our Qantas plane for a couple of hours!! So we felt soooooo confident!! There was good [View Full Entry]

Well helllllllloooooo there!!! It's us again, I bet you will be glad when we are back so that you don't get these emails from us!! Lol! Well we are in Sydney Airport... and we knew we shouldn't have said anything about not being delayed!!! We have an estimated 2 hour extra wait!! Woo hoo!! But anyway we have had a great time in Sydney and we will definately be back here as well!! Yesterday afternoon we went whale watching!! It was a real chilled out time and we saw eight humpback whales, we didn't see them come out of the water [View Full Entry]

We left NZ with a bit of a tear in our eyes as we had had such an amazing time. Our flight was on time again... we are begining to think that the only hitch we will encounter whilst flying will be going from Heathrow to Newcastle on our return home! But that's ages away... so we won't go there just yet! The flight was uneventful and we arrived in Sydney only to find the weather was wubberfish! (rubbish for interpretation purposes) We thought that going through bio security would be a problem when they opened two of our three suitcases!! [View Full Entry]

So yesterday morning we left the lovely Bennett's to head for Auckand. It was hard to say goodbye as we have had such a good time but we are happy knowing that we are leaving them in this beautiful part of the world. The journey to Auckland seemed to take forever (about 3 hours) and by a complete fluke we managed to find our way to Mount Eden on our way into town - the kiwis aren't very good with signposts. Mount Eden is another extinct volcanoe with great views over the whole of Auckland. We confidently set off from there [View Full Entry]

Well we are sitting at Auckland Airport about to say farewell to New Zealand! We had a lovely meal last night with Steph and Tim, who moved here in March, and heard all about the church plant they are involved in with New Frontiers International. We had to get up at 5.30 this morning to get to the airport so we're a bit wrecked but we are excited to see Sydney (and hopefully Nemo). Rob was awake half the night as he was so excited. We will miss NZ but we'll definately be back :o) Thanks for all your comments - [View Full Entry]

Our last few days in New Zealand have been pretty chilled. Yesterday Emily and Lydia came with us to Katikati (what a fab name for a town!) bird park and Karangahake Gorge. The bird park was in a really lovely setting and we were given some bird food to take round with us. The first birds we saw were ducks so we fed them enthusiastically! This was a mistake as they followed us round the round the rest of the park. We found a really quiet spot with a bird table and decided it would be a good idea to put [View Full Entry]

Wow what an exciting 2 days we've had!! We set off for Taupo late yesterday morning and decided to stop on the way at Skyline skyrides!! This involved getting a Gondola (aka cable car) to the top of a big hill and then riding a luge (small go-cart) down one of three tracks - scenic, intermediate and advanced! We paid for 3 turns each on the luge as it was only an extra 2 dollars! The scenic track was a bit lame and Rob kept getting stuck on the flatter bits!! Karen wasn't sure whether she wanted to do any more [View Full Entry]

Sunday was a bit of a chilled day! We were going to go to church in the morning but we slept through! Doh!! When we did surface we had a chat with our wonderful hosts and decided to make the best of the good weather and have a picnic!! Thats one of Robs favourite things to do!!! Not!!! We had planned on going to see a stranded Orca Whale that they have named Nobby, but we discoverd that they manged to get him back swimming again in high tide! So that was good news! Anyway we went for this picnic and [View Full Entry]
