Yesterday we got a rickshaw into Haridwar which is about an hours drive. It really is quite hard because whenever you want to spend money i.e go in a rickshaw, they try and charge you astronomical amounts. So after much fighting and about 50 drivers around you you CAN actually get a very cheap rate. You have just got to have patience, pretend you are going to walk there and fight (not physically!) It is quite amusing actually. So we got to Haridwar and visited the temple on top of the hill from a cable car, that was good. However you have to pay a donation for your shoes, to go into the temple and then there are about 20 shrines in the temple all full of money. Apparently it is one of the holiest citys ... read more

Ashley and I moved to separate hotels yesterday, I think we were getting in eachother's shoes a bit. Anyway, it's all good now. For the last two evenings i've been going to a singalong religious ceremony by the water, it's great fun - very lively and fantastic music! I met a boy 2 days ago, he just hobbled past me (as one of his legs is badly damaged) I thought he was going to ask for money but he just came past and sat next to me. He has no family and just lives on the streets, it's really sad... I have been spending time with him and gave him my socks yesterday.. Last night I nearly got horned by a cow - moved out the way just in time! Walked up to a fantastic temple ... read more

We left Mcleod Ganj yesterday morning and travelled to Chikki Bank station about 3 hours away. Ashley and I got a hotel room for the day as our train wasn't untill the evening. Had a sleep and then got on the train (with sleeper bunks) was pretty amazing! Just hundreds of bunks packed tightly onto this train, we were in the top bunks which was great. I slept so well considering! However, did wake up at 4am FREEZING cold, wondered what it was and realised that both of the train doors either side were open, just blowing in the wind. Was very funny...got up and closed them and woke at 6am to drink Chai that a man was selling on the train. Most of the morning was spent swinging out of the train doors whilst moving..! ... read more

This week we basically assisted in a drawing competition in the Yongling School. From then on the day got pretty exciting. First of all I don't think I mentioned that Ashley and I's room got broken into last week. A fair amount of money was stolen. debit cards, driving License, Security numbers, gold bangles etc. Anyway we were about to go to the Police and this man overheard us talking on Monday (20th) and so he asked to talk to us in private. He contu\inued to tell us that thefts happen all the time and Mcleod Ganj is more dangerous than Delhi. However no crimes are reported to keep up tourism and to of course keep the place a holi place as the Dalai Lama lives here. So it is a problem spiralling out of control. ... read more

Well this week we did painting in the Yongling School for two days and then the Indian School for tw days, was really good fun! It's just as well I left my nice watch at home because one of the days I managd to pour alot of red paint down my arm and over my watch I bought in Delhi! We saw the Dalai Lama a few days ago, that was good, all the people around gathering for a glimpse, we will be going to a talk of his in a few days. Last night (Saturday 17th) there was a party ... read more

12 of us left for our trek on the 10th at about 8am. We walked from Mcleod Ganj up and up to about 2800 Mtrs. It took us about 3 hours to get up to the top and was amazing but hard work! I have some incredible pictures but I just don't know if they do it justice.... :s We stayed at Triund for the night so people could get used to the altitude and 12 of us filled the floor in a small cabin. It was great because from when we started we seemed to accumulate dogs. We ended up with about five and they seem to just trek with people and look after them. They even came further up with us to the snow line the next day and then all the way back ... read more

On Tuesday we did a bit of litter picking on the mountain which was good....pretty precarious though! Yesterday we went into the school in the morning and each one of us was put in a separate classroom, I didn't particularly like it. I havn't been around children much atall and I didn't really feel at ease with them! Anyway, at lunch I had a queue pushing a shoving each other as I taught them a hand clapping thing game. Can't really describe it, anyway that was pretty good! I was quite relieved to leave after we had lunch. The sun was so hot! Amazing weather and then really quite chilly in the shade... Today (the 9th) all of us did some more litter picking on the mountain side, you would not believe the amount of rubbish ... read more

Yesterday was a pretty steep learning curve although I managed to hold my ground well and not be conned out of any money, so was pretty impressed about that. Got myslef out of a sticky situation in a shop and told them I didn't want anything...even a carpet they tried to sell me. I whizzed around alot of the trycycles...loads of people wanting to know my business.... I eventually got myself t the bus station where M.D was waiting for me. He just stands out a mile in his imaculate clothing against all the shit, piss and rubbish on the floor and on the people. Got on the bus, 12 hr journey and arrived in Dharasala at about 8am this morning. It is beautiful! Driving through ravines and across ledges on cliffs...spectacular! I met a guy ... read more

Arrived yesterday at 6am....Just imagine driving down a motorway with cows on it. M.D picked me up and we drove through streets of cows, rubbish, people, horns, bikes, cars, trycycles, beggers...just an amazing place! M.D was brillient and sorted out my money, food and a place to stay. Slept for about 14 hours last night and have been wondering the streets of Delhi this morning. It' s quite intimidating but you just have to get on with it. I've had children touching my arms and sort of trying to grab me for money but I just keep on walking. It's pretty amusing that alot of childen seem to think my shoes need mending (you know the ones!) It is very hot here... I was picked up this morning and taken to a torist/map place where they ... read more
