Hello everyone, it is very late at night but here I am documenting the day. Today was our shopping day in St. George's. We went to the Spiceland Mall and the local artisans market where I picked up a few great souvenirs. Then went to swim in the Caribbean Sea-the water is so clear you can see right to the bottom and the sand at Grand Anse beach is some of the whitest I have ever seen. A little girl named Nia tried to show me how to the do the butterfly because she said I was doing it wrong-not that [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone, it has been a very busy couple of days as we were staying with our host families in St. George's for the weekend. I was staying with my friends Fran and Cartina with the Martin Family in an area called Woodlands. They own a snack company in Grenada called Sunshine Snacks. They have a beautiful house with an incredible view. On our first night with them we went out to De Big Fish-an outdoor oasis and pub where we listened to live music complete with guitar and saxophone. I had a Shandi Ginger Beer which was yummy. We also [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone, sounds like there have been some storms up there in the north. We had a big rain storm today and the sound of the thunder was so loud that people were screaming... luckily it was in the afternoon and not during VBS. We returned to Belair for Day two and there were 39 kids there, 9 of whom were under age 5. They were so great making popup cards in crafts, playing what time is it Mr. Wolf and singing Let me see your alligator. It sounded a bit like a church picnic and they love the action songs. Hello everyone, Today was the first day of Vacation Bible School and we were working at Belair church. I am directing the program with about 20 of my friends here. We had 18 kids attend from ages 3-16. We sang a great new song to start off that the kids loved called I only want to be a sheep. It was so thrilling to see the smiles on their faces as they did their bible activities, sang songs, played games and made crafts. They were so excited about their bookmarks and especially singing songs with actions. Their smiles and laughter was [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Welcome home Mom! It has been a fun couple of days down here in Grenada. I continue to get mosquito bites-they love us Canadians. We got the chance to go into Grenville a couple of days ago to get all our stuff for VBS. It is neat to see how different the stores are down here. A lot of mixed bag stores, a couple of clothing and furniture, but the town is not the cleanest. There are banners that hang in the streets and people are everywhere. We even saw a funeral procession of people walking down the street [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! I am going to keep this message short because there are others waiting to get online. I just wanted share a few photos so look in that section. We went on an 8 km hike today through Grenville the nearest city here and down to the beach. There were kids with their moms playing cricket with scraps of wood and a tennis ball, goats tied near houses every where. Mangos, breadfruit, pears and coconuts hanging from most of the trees. It is hard to see that this land was very much devastated by Hurricane Ivan only a few years [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! Well the rain it came down alright last night. The people who are native to the Caribbean called it a wee storm, for us in Canada it would be a torrential downpour. I am continually amazed by the beauty of the view of the Caribbean Sea from the top of Mt. St. Ervans where we are staying. It is a Catholic retreat centre that is surrounded by mountains in the north, lush green forests, starfruit and cashew fruits (like apples) but more sour. From here you can see all the way to the sea. It has been quite hot [View Full Entry]

Hello everyone! We arrived safely after our flight from Toronto to Barbados, then on to Tobago, and then Grenada after the sun set. There was a workers strike in Barbados so we were a bit late getting away. On the plane ride down I sat between a Trinidadian and a woman from Barbados who talked about the merits of silver fish and jack fish. The Caribbean from the air is a beautiful sight and so I took some pictures from the plane. After checking in and out of immigration in Barbados, we even had a tourist rep meet us in Grenada. Hey everyone, it is 12:10 a.m. and I should be in bed, but alas my packing is now finished. I am off tomorrow morning to Grenada and will try and update as I can. There is only dialup down there, so don't fret if you don't hear from me regularly. Such is the life! I hope you are doing well. I am off on my Grenadian adventure. love, Katy [View Full Entry]
