India is still tops Hi Donna, I am repeating myself because I think what I wrote may have disappeared. I have just returned from Southeast Asia. Doris who was with us in India was on the trip as was Nancy who wrote a blog on the the trip with Shagzil just prior to ours. I just read her SEA blog, then her India blog then yours. The SEA trip was great and our tour leader was wonderful but I doubt if anything will ever be as exciting as India and our tour. Hope you are well and on to more adventures. Our next trip will be a sedate one to Germany and Italy. We were on the Danube last fall, Budapest to Istanbul. Enjoyed Istanbul and would like to see more of Turkey. Namaste

Camera Hey Kathy,
I bought a Canon Powershot 2200 just before I left--less than $100. and the size of a pack of cards. I also had my notebook computer with me so I could do blogs more easily--finding internet access was hard enough. As for the pics, I got lucky a couple of times. There were some where I couldn't get my camera out in time--a woman painting the front of her house in a sari, for example!
Glad you enjoyed my journey. Next year: Africa!
Info about Kerala The Communist party actually ruled Kerala for a lot of time.Kerala is one of the first places in the whole world where communists came into power democratically(through elections).Kerala state was formed in 1956 .The communist got elected in the first elections in 1957.The communist party led LDF and Indian national Congress led UDF have alternated in power since 1982.Now the UDF is in power.
40%of the people of Kerala are not Christians. Only 19%of the population are Christians. 24.7% are Muslims and 56% Hindus.
Then about the elephants. The elephant in picture is a bull elephant.Only bull elephants have tusks among the Asian elephants(Unlike African elephants where both male and female have tusks) .Only these bulls elephants are used in the festivals in Kerala.
If you need more info about Kerala please check the following links

BTW I am a Keralite and I think you liked my state. Thanks for visiting Kerala.
Happy Journey!
Thanks for viHave a nice
.
Corrections Hi Saajan,
Thank you for the info. I re-checked my notes and I had misread the elephant thing--but the rest was info supplied by our guide--also born and raised in Kerala. I think the important thing is that Communism had a positive effect (high education) and also that it isn't the Communism that we associate with Russia--no private ownership, etc.--more of a socialist party. Anyway, really liked Kerala. Not at all the picture one gets when thinking about India!
