Budapest You can tell you liked this best - and we can see why! It's old, it's new, it's quaint and it's clean. How special you must have felt getting such treatment from the mayor! There's an saying that says, "You might forget what people say. You might forget what people did but you will never forget how they made you feel". How true is that?
Budapest is not a place that I would have thought of visiting before - until now. Take care...

Hungary Wow! So enjoy your diary. Eva really enjoyed your comments about Hungary and hopes you had a chance to visit the parliament buildings in Budapest.
Pictures... Incredible architecture - and so clean looking! You wouldn't think it would be marred with grafitti to look at the pictures. On the other hand, it should have kept people employed cleaning it up.
Good to hear from you...

Travelling Lady looks healthy Hi Donna
You do look great. That's a wonderful selection of photos. I may be mistaken but it seems to me the Wilanow Castle was used in several war pictures a number of years back.
Just in case you hadn't heard, its been pretty hot and humid here too. I have put my Nomination Papers in to run in the upcoming November municipal election for another term. I imagine the list of candidates will be long this year. We will have to wait until the end of September to see how that shapes up.
Stay healthy and keep enjoying your and sharing your travels. - Selma
Lithuania... Lithuania looks quite clean and well kept - perhaps pride of ownwership now the have their independence.
By the way, the Moscow subway stations were unbelievable! I can't imagine the cost of keeping them looking like they do. Your pictures of Russia were not at all like I would have expected to see - I was very impressed.
Take care...

Plan Ahead... I can't believe that you of all people - the one who covers every detail when planning anything - decided to 'wing it' on accommodations! Glad you had a thoughtful 'bunk partner' who let you have the bottom. I bet you enjoyed the dog show,eh.
Take care and be sure to call ahead next time!!!

Picture nomber 2 Hi! Just a small correction, the building in picture 2 is not a govenmental building but the Lutheran Cathedral "Tuomiokirkko" of Helsinki.
A lesson I hope you learned So you stayed in a youth hostel. Good for you. Next time though you might want to check the current events. Thw beer is an interesting shot but the dogs are beautiful.

Thanks from Elderhostel/Scandinavian Seminar Thanks for your many thoughtful comments and insights. Great reading! We thoroughly enjoyed your participation, and wish you continued good travels.
Good to see you in a couple of photos Your looking well travelling lady which is great. So are your photos except some are a little dark. I'll look forward to seeing the hard copies on your return. Still busy here. Was surprised to meet up with an old friend - Tony DeMotto the other day who is reading my mail - aren't you Tony? He and I were on the Parkdale Community Centre Board way back. It was nice to catch up with him and that was all because of you.
Take care - Selma
Denmark... This looks amazing - definately old but with a polish of the new to it! I think I could spend some time there with no problem.
We thought our taxes were bad but I guess we hadn't better complain about them any more....$14,000 sounds a lot worse!
Take care...

Amsterdam... This looks and sounds like a beautiful spot. The wooden shoes depicted are gorgeous but I don't think I could dance much of a jig in them. Did you try any on to see just how comfortable they really are?
These types of museums give you a real visual of what life was really like - still say I 'm glad to be living in this era.
Take care...

Catch-up with our travelling friend Hi Donna
My system was down for nearly a week and I am now trying to catch up with my mail. We have had quite a bit of rain these past few days and little sunshine. Everyone's grass is looking great.
The Belleville Public Library and John M. Parrott Art Gallery had the Official Opening May 26th. There is still work to be completed in and out of the library but it is a beautiful, functional building. The "Opening" was very exciting and special.
Stay in touch and keep on moving. - Selma
Fellow Merljin traveller Thanks for the Merljin journal : O ) it is a nice reminder of what we did. I am glad you are roaming far and wide and letting us be at your side for your tour. Your book of travels is due when? May all your journey's be safe ones. Margaret
Tunnels and walls... Seeing structures like these sure makes us glad we grew up in a place and a time when we did, doesn't it? I can't even imagine an 8 ton door, let alone being confined behind it for a long period of time.
You are certianly getting a look into the past first hand!
Good to hear from you...

Strange but true as they say Donna
We are getting quite an education from your travels. This, so far, is the wonder of wonders. Next time you visit a place with statues be a little more careful how close you get lady. Just as an aside, my granddaughter just returned from visiting her friend in Brussels> I'll have to share this one with her. Take care and keep in touch - Selma
pics Did you take these photographs? Some are simply spectactular! I'm sure you're thinking on writing about your travels in a form that will include sex and violence not indicated here. Think about including many of these pictures too!
