Siem Reap The journey to Siem Reap from Battambang, as I previously alluded too, was loooooooong. 7 hours in total, by boat. In our guide book it mentions that the journey between the two towns along the meandering river is one of the most sccenic journeys in the whole of South East Asia, and for once, I have to agree. We wound our way (slowly) along the river, at times no more that 30 feet wide, at times more like 300, through a succession of river villages. Some were small, no more than a dozen wooden shacks perched precariously on the water's edge, others were vast, following the bends of the rivers for up to a mile or so.
