After a few wonderful days in Tennant Creek we are now getting ready for Alice Springs, which is our next destination. It is going to be a lot of fun! On that note, I am going to leave you for now and go find all my things that is placed here and there all over the room and press it down my backpack once more and get all that (and ourselves) into the car and hit the road. Today we visited Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre. The architect in me was impressed by the building itself, but the experience overall was lovely as well. Nyinkka Nyunyu is a museum worth some of your time. It’s mainly about art and the regional history. I realize that I have been talking a lot about how you should check out the history and aboriginal culture when you are in Australia. I am sorry for all of you who are not as interested in it as I am. But anyway, Nyinkka Nyunyu. If was fun, I recommend it, go check for yourself! img=http://www.australiasoutback.com/~/media/Images/TourismNT/Tennant%20Creek%20and%20Barkly/nyinkka_nyunyu_art_cultural_centre_ten_bar_r_11698_540x304.ashx?bc=White //Lovisa... read more

In Tennant creek we found out about Kelly’s Ranch where you get a guided tour on horseback on which you get to hear stories about aboriginal culture and get some bush-tucker stops along the way. It sounded interesting so why not give it a go? If you feel like you need to, like we did, you can sign up for a one hour long group riding lesson before the real ride. You don’t need any earlier experience, which makes this an activity everyone can enjoy. Unless you like Linnéa is allergic, then this might not be your best option. But she still enjoyed it in between the sneezes. It was a lot of fun, and as fascinating as we thought it would be if not more. On the other hand, since none of us is a ... read more

Today we stopped by Top Didj, which is a place where you can learn about Aboriginal culture by meeting Aboriginals and ask questions, or try boomerang and/or spear throwing if that is what you like. And since Top Didj is now also the home of the Katherine Art Gallery, it is a fantastic place for the art interested as well. The price is reasonable, $55 for adults and $35 for children, but it is not only a family experience, a group of friends or even you alone can have fun and learn a lot here. The three of us decided to go for the Boomerang throwing (because Australia), the painting and of course the cultural talk. Now the painting was a lot of fun since art is something that I personally is very interested in, but ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » Katherine » Katherine Gorge October 27th 2013

When we arrived to Katherine we went straight to our hotel to leave our things. The hotel we had chosen was called Palm court backpackers, we thought it would be good since it was locate well so we could get to places by foot which means less money spent on gas. We have heard so many interesting stories about the Nitmiluk National Park, or Katherine Gorge as it is also called. There are a lot of options to experience Katherine Gorge, you can hire a canoe and paddle your way along the gorges, you can board a cruise or a speed boat and of course you can go by foot. All though, the three of us thought that a helicopter ride would be really fun, so that is what we decided to go for. We found ... read more
