| 4th August 2009 Bobby Hex | Adelaide - From: Adelaide antics Have spent some time in Adelaide over the past two years both working and on Holiday. Strikes me as an overgrown Pietermaritzburg with all the speed and pace of city like PMB. Rush hour consists of a line of cars 6 deep and having to wait for at least two green lights to cross the intersection. I am not sure how the locals would handle Sydney or Johannesburg traffic. Quaint things such as a 10 year waiting list for membership at the Royal Adelaide golf club bring memories of a past era at the Durban Country Club. The fact that they are 1000 km from the nearest influence on their culture leads them to live in splendid isolation ,just reading the dail penny horible tells you that what goes on "out there" is only of minor importance. However if you can adjust to the life I am sure that the stress levels drop to near perfect. it was refreshing for me to see that people are prepared to dedicate their whole life to a cause be it work or play. I came accross scores of poeple who had worked for a firm or department all their life with no intention of finding greener pastures. Indeed a wiff of things from the past. On the whole though a very agreeable part of the world to set down roots and indulge in life in the left hand lane. |

Wow, every time we go there it seems even better than the previous, its a real piece of paradise... with special friends being Sharon and Rob, Di and Doug Jackson, Col and Charles Bennett and John and I. It was bliss... perfect weather, saw the big 5 and loads of little "beings". Anyway - thanks for all your blogs. About Janes 50th. Her invitation specifically states please not to bring a gift. I missed todays meeting and have not discussed with any of the ladies, but I think we should respect her wish. An idea I have, is to perhaps give her a card with a note of which charity a donation has been made in place of a gift. What do you think? I will chat to the ladies about it and see how they feel. Meanwhile - you carry on enjoying the last chapter of your travels. At noosa you may see Garth and Trish Berg ? - if you do, please give them our best love etc etc - they were at Perth many years, and around a year or 2 ago moved to retire at Noosa. My sister and i will fly to Newcastle (just outside Sydney) when I visit her in October as we have a step brother there and will spend a night with him and his wife. 2 more disciplinary hearings at work last week for Rakesh lutchmen and Jo Alfred, with Rakesh being dismissed and Jo given final written warning - shame, Rakesh was looking really old and must have aged 10 years in the last week. Otherwise, no more exciting news - Craig busy with budgets and is doing a great job being MD. Got an email from Colin Wilde - they off to Aus in October to the gold coast and looking forward to it. Will have to leave their dogs behind, cannot have another quarantine period, but have found good homes for them. I am to be a granny again, Graeme and Jo expecting 2nd baby in Feb so that is great news, hope it is a boy this time. | 17th June 2009 Megan | Reply to travel tales - From: Darwin ditty Dear Tim and Sue So sorry we have not replied before but Bruce has tried and has not managed to get it right ... we are hoping that this attempt will work! We have, however, read the reports with GREAT interest, huge fascination, plenty of envy, and wonder at the magical photos and magnificent writing style! You have certainly started retirement off on the right note, presumably how you intend to continue. Not only have you managed to capture the spirit of the places you have visited, much to our awe, but you have clearly unwound and forgotten all about the corporate world and all those trifling concerns. Congratulations, too, on living so well with each other ... it is no mean feat being just two of you for so long ... we know all about it and it was very good for us. Keep the blogs rolling .. we so enjoy them! We are at the moment with Sue and Col in Ushuaia, Argentina, having arrived in Buenos Aires on Sunday. The "end of the world" is a truly magical place .. soaring snowy peaks, crystal clear rivers and lakes, the mystical Beagle Channel and Darwin Range .. we are definitely hoping to visit here next year on our trip to Chile .. you will be blown away by the fishing and the beauty! We spent three wonderful weeks in Mocambique .. fishing not great but more than enough for plenty to eat and lots to bring home .. weather was superb. Then we had a week at Mpande on the Wild Coast with all the family, including the grandchildren .. again, superb weather and a truly special family time together. Bruce and Connor then spent a few days in St Francis, where they caught a couple of cracker, and now we are in Argentina for three weeks. We should be home at the beginning of July .. in the meantime, have El Calafate and the Perito Merino glacier, Buenos Aires and the tango (Bruce insisted on a show the night we arrived which meant that we didnīt get to bed until four, SA time, the next morning!), and a campervan to explore the North .. possible fishing, hopefully lots of birding (already seen all sorts of īlifersī) and long lazy days. Enjoy the train journey - another awfully big adventure - and the rest of your travels. Lots of love Meg and Bruce When are you due home? We are all missing you but have been enchanted by your extraordinarily articulate, descriptive and oft times poetic descriptions of your adventures. Looking forward to ! |

Oliver stopped smoking, but not great, been quite sick and having x-rays (not sure why), Clinton and Rakesh also been off work. Good fishing Sue and we look forward to more pictures of your catches, although I am sure Tim has done his home work (where the fish really are) and will rise early one morning to come back to the camper with his catch. Laura and I were wondering how one gets rid of the camper toilet contents in Aussie after a few days travel? Where and how do you replenish your water on route or is it free?
