Siggins history
Hello ryan, i have been in contact with Diane and John Ladley, Watford, England who are relatives of Siggins, Ballymurray. I am one of those too but actually live near Ballymurray. Would like to keep in contact with you. Would love to know more about George Siggins who was son of John Siggins (d.1910). George I think is your greatgrandfather? Enjoyed your blog. Regards, Albert Siggins

Welcome Home
Hi there - I just started reading you blog a few days ago. I am planning a trip to Nepal in September and have been reading Nepal blogs, especially the ones over the last few days as the strikes have broken out. I found yours to be very interesting, nice pictures. I thought the food was one thing I was going to love about Nepal, but maybe not. And I see you are from Phila, I am from PA as well, the Lehigh Valley area plus a year of graduate school in Philadelphia, though I no longer live on the East Coast. Welcome home, get some good rest and clean food. Thanks for the stories and pics.

Door comment
At some point things are beyond repair. This door had reached that point a long time ago. But I definitely get your point and agree with it to some extent - obviously you can't go here expecting all the comforts of home. We certainly didn't expect things to be grand. Though we also came upon much better places, even further along the trek in Gorak Shep so I don't think the complaint is unreasonable.

Are you serious?
Complaining that the lodge owners didn't get a new door but rather patched it up? You're in the Himalayas for christ's sake!

Oh My.......in a far off land
The bucket thing is a upgrade...nice place. Usually a hole in the ground is the standard. Wise decision with the hand sign thing. Have fun. Be careful.

Hope you're having fun!
I love that you posted this Ryan. Thanks for the update on your adventures with my brother. It sounds like you two are keeping very busy. Please try to avoid any destitute places though ha. Have fun and be safe! Can't wait to read the next entry.

That's crazy. The elementary school that I went to in Hong Kong had those same exact desks!

When you were five years old you would have fired all those questions at the poor stewardess and not rested until she satisfied each one of them with a very detailed answer! LOL Have fun. Mom

Experiences, not money.
The thing that is great is that you now realize how you would like to live the rest of your life. You know that you want to have the free time to keep exploring everything about this world. You want to encounter experiences. Careers, History, Scenery, Food, Cultures, ...Just understanding how everything works in general and is interconnected. You know that when you're 60 years old, you can look back and say "damn, this whole life thing (for me) has been a great and interesting experience". Most people can't do this. At the age of 60, they look back and realize they didn't do much besides work, and relax from work around the house during the weekends. In college, we thought we had to be rich to be satisfied. Now we realize satisfaction comes from experiences. You can work your ass off for years and make alot of money, and die tomorrow in a car accident. At that point, money doesn't mean shit, and you've done nothing except waste time on this planet. You worked your ass off and experienced nothing. Now you are dead, and you can't go back.

That new building in Dubai
I don't think the Eurika Tower is the tallest residential building in the world now. Two months ago they just opened that new building in Dubai (in the Persian Gulf). I am like 95% sure, but I believe the top half of that is all residential.

trolley, not tram.
That's a trolley. We still have a couple of them in Philadelphia. And that market is similar to the Reading Terminal Market that we have in center city philadelphia.

RE: Trading Places
I'll crunch some numbers and figure out what it will take me to make that deal. I trust it won't be a low figure.

Trading Places
I will gladly trade places with you on the beach. You can finish shoveling here while I bask in the sunshine and warmth there. Deal????????

Nice Trip
Enjoyed your blogs on your trip. How the heck you could afford to do this in this economy is beyond me but kudos to you. Next time we expect less running and more crazy nights.

Gastronomic remark
The goulash is Hungarian, what Czech call goulash is porkolt in Hungary, which might be similar to the one you tried in Czech, though much more tasty. Czech goulash is like french pizza...

If you want. I'm definitely not going to be running as quick as last year. I'll probably stop and chat with people, too. Don't feel obligated but of course you're more than welcome. I think my parents are going up that morning. They'll probably be somewhere in Brooklyn, then First Ave and Central Park. Much like we did for Mike but also with a Boorklyn stop. You can always follow them.

It's time to come home now, we miss you! By the way...do you want some cheerleaders during your marathon run? We're just trying to plan the upcoming weekends. Can't wait to hear more about your memorable trip, and enjoying your blogs!

Response to Phil
Ha ha. Well, I do find a lot of time to think about things when I'm on the train and when I'm doing them. I try not to think "this will be great on the blog" but sometimes it works out that way. I also try and reflect on much of what I do and not just check the box and move on. That's not my style. Something tells me that it's not yours either. It has. But I have been able to persevere. It's a bit of a unique challenge, really. But when I'd come back I'd prefer to absorb a bit more culture by communicating with the locals. Of course I did. I don't mean to suggest that I am him. I can probably equally compare and contrast. But I was surprised to see how much I could compare. We probably all can do this, though.
