KATOWICE - WARSAW 03.10.08 Km traveled 3384 The colors outside the window are enchanting. I think I've already said I love this time of the year. Hills hidden under a thick cloth of trees, some yellow and red spots, a silver mirror of water, the smell of green and wet. I wish we had time to wonder around this land. But the train is slowly cutting his way to Warsaw. Jump Inn Hostel is a very lovely place and even if it's a bit of a walk from the Old Town, I would recommend it to anyone. It's cheap, has very [View Full Entry]

BRATISLAVA - KATOWICE 01.10.08 Km traveled 3040 Jogging early morning, under the rain, with a backpack the size of yourself on your shoulders to catch the 5.54 train, is a MUST for every traveler. So we thought that was a good chance for us to show off our traveling skills. When you choose to take a train so early in the morning, when it's still dark, it means that things are going to be difficult. Otherwise you would have taken the 2.00 pm train! So obviously what should have been just an early morning journey from Bratislava to Katowice, with ONE [View Full Entry]

BRATISLAVA 30.09.08 OK now it comes out that Bratislava is the city with the highest rate of kiwis outside New Zealand! Or maybe is all made for me so I will get used to it. The guy with the messy bed ended up being from NZ and in the room there are other two girls, also kiwis. Now we're wandering around the city and the only two people around that are english-speaking, guess what? Are kiwis! So kiwis rule. Forget about all that stories saying that Italians are everywhere. We lost it. Apart from that Bratislava looks like a pretty anonymous [View Full Entry]

ROMA-VIENNA 28.09.08 Km traveled 2700 I felt a bit sad and a bit scared, but then it was easier than I thought. We were just waiting for that. For the moment the train moved and put us back on our way. On the train from Rome to Vienna we're in a 6 berth couchette. We got the two top beds, which at first seemed to me good. But now you really need to have a laugh about it. When I got on my bed I just couldn't bear it, I was so scared! Of falling! Well now you can laugh, I [View Full Entry]

BRACCIANO 26.09.08 Autumn has come. And it feels like it should be here. Sunny and breezy. Here in the countryside around Rome everything is quite. We’re sorting out the last few things before moving again. For the rest we just relax. We’re enjoying the infinite pleasure of Italian food and I’m struggling to get a bit of tan before leaving towards the cold! The only thing we’re still missing is…a Visa to Vietnam!! I guess we got distracted and we just missed the thing. We hope we’re gonna be able to get one in Moscow or in Beijing, if anyone has [View Full Entry]

ROMA Europe » Italy » Lazio » Rome
ROME 05.09.08 Km travelled - 1937 Home sweet home. 33.5° at lunch time, that’s for those who like the chill and the rain. I don’t. Or at least my body doesn’t. I guess I’m a bit of a lizard, I could lay still on a rock under the sun for ages. Sam has joined us in the afternoon and I suspect Michael is relieved to have some English-speaking being beside him! So that’s all good, I can finally meet some friends and is a good chance to go out for dinner and let Mike and Sam explore the joys of Italian [View Full Entry]

LONDON-PARIS 04.09.08 EUROSTAR Km travelled - 0 This is something we've already done. We feel quite confident. But when the train starts moving, that's when you realize. We're going away. That's no holiday, we'll come back to our lovely flat in Tufnell Park in a few days. That's all gone. This time is for good. We're jobless, homeless, you almost feel like naked. But we must admit it, for now at least, it feels great. The train slips away slowly under the ... vault of St Pancras. Above it the gray quilt without which I could even think about London now.
