Dreamchasers Canada 2017: Headin' to the Mountains with Ramblin' Rose

We live in Saskatchewan, in the center of the Prairies, so a road trip to our favorite campsite destination in the Canadian Rockies Banff National Park is about twelve hours. We have made this trip numerous times over the past four decades. Our first trips to the mountains, in the early seventies, began with traveling in a car and tenting, until we purchased a brand new blue 1978 Chevrolet van that we immediately converted into a camper van. Old Blue took us on many, many annual excursions to the mountains for the next two decades, often bringing along bicycles, motorbikes, kayaks, canoes, and our hiking gear. Then times changed, Old Blue moved on, and we made the almost annual trip in a car, sleeping in a tent for a few years. On our last tenting trip, in late September 2014, the weather was cold and rainy, we had to shorten our trip and got in minimal campfire time, and it was just not fun, so we decided we would need to make a new plan to replace sleeping in a tent if we wanted to continue returning to the mountains. A couple years later, we came across an old but well cared for recreation vehicle that suited our budget. It came with the promise that we could continue our mountain excursions sleeping in a dry bed and not worrying about the weather - along with the added bonus of previously unimaginable luxury such as stupid amounts of storage space, a fridge and freezer, and a table. Wow. What fun! Most of the other amenities it came with - like the oven, microwave, and furnace - have yet to be turned on. And the stove burners have really only been used to make that wonderful cup of morning coffee! It was love at first sight. We named her Ramblin' Rose, and she has now taken us back to the mountains each year since. No regrets. The love affair and annual excursions continue on.
