After three weeks of travelling and me being extremely slack with the travel blog, we have found ourselves in Liverpool for two days of Beatles overload. We arrived this morning and promptly ordered a Fab Four Taxi Tour to take us to see the sights. This was essentially a big black cab (yes, the London type just not quite as expensive) and our own private tour guide for 3 hours who drove us around, told us the stories, took photos for us, and basically met Joel's needs for Beatles information. From Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, Elanor Rigby and the church yard where John and Paul were introduced through to their childhood homes - we now have photos of them all. And to finish off the evening, we headed to the Cavern which is the club ... read more

What a way to end my trip, just over a week exploring Kenya! It was absolutely amazing, and started from the very minute I got picked up from the door of the plane... yes, Fi looked after me very well, and knowing my nervous disposition travelling (which I think has now been completely cured!) she used her contacts to come and pick me up from the door of the plane! But I was told in no uncertain terms that we had a strict timetable to follow. It was an hours drive to get to her place, then an hour and a half to shower, do my hair and make up (have a glass of champagne - of course, it was Fi and I, there was going to be champagne!), change into the dress she had borrowed ... read more

So Ben and I have been in Turkey for three days now and are absolultely loving it! Our first day in Istanbul we took a tour through the Topkapi Palace and grounds, a huge complex built for the Sultans. While the Palace was exceptional, what really caught my attention was the third largest diamond in the world, 86 carats, on display... when I get married next year (after drinking from the spring at Delphi, dont forget ;-) I know what I am going to be looking for!! Apparently though, attempts have been made to set it in a ring in the past, but it is just too big, oh well, perhaps i'll have to settle for something smaller - there was a 56 carat diamond just beside it, if I must :) The funny (or not ... read more

After spending so long in Egypt and getting aclimatised to the heat and constant sun, Greece has been a bit of a shock for both Ben and I. We have just finished a four day bus tour up into the Greek mountains, seeing some spectacular scenery, but also having to scramble to find shops selling umbrellas and frantically searching through suitcases to find trousers! I'll start from the beginning... We arrived in Athens at silly o'clock in the morning, after no sleep, so needless to say, we spent most of the day just relaxing, and getting organised. But later in the afternoon we headed out for a walk and found the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and Hadrian's Arch, the old entrance to the city of Athens. Our hotel also had lovely night time views of the ... read more

Well my Egyptian adventure has now come to an end and Ben and I arrived in Athens bright and early this morning. We had a fantastic time, needless to say, starting with three days in Alexandria. After having spent a couple of days in Cairo, Alexandria as a lovely relaxing change. Being on the coast, the weather was cooler and we were able to walk around almost all of the city. The highlight was to see the next Alexandria Library that is being made into one of the biggest and best libraries in the world, following the tradition of the original library. The outside of the building looks almost space aged, representing the sun rising it is large disk coming up, with a huge reading room and a display of some of the original printing presses ... read more

It has been such an eventful fortnight away that I hardly know where to start... I am now sitting at the hotel in Cairo by myself after saying goodbye to Mum this afternoon. We had a fantastic week here, lots of adventure, and lots of fun. It started with a crash course in Cairo peak hour traffic the weekend before Ramadan. With 22 million people living in Cairo it felt like everyone was on the roads... and for everyone that tried to warn me about traffic and driving in Egypt, you did a terrible job!! I had no idea exactly how crazy it is!! Lanes are optional, as are indicators, giving way and pedestrian crossings (everyone just plays chicken with each other) but the horn is mandatory - I am hoping to get some audio of ... read more
