The travel from Crater Lake to Northern California was an easy six hour drive and the change in the weather was quite significant. Where is it was beautiful sunshine it became cloudy and foggy once we entered the big forest, the surrounding towns and cities are certainly not worth a visit so just keep on driving if you have that opportunity. We stayed in Crescent city which is just north of the national park, it is quite dilapidated and has a rough feel to the area. After entering the national park I was completely at a loss to even try and describe the immense size these Redwood tree have. A huge forest of huge trees is really an experience that can not be explained, you just have to visit to experience the enormity of these eloquent ... read more

We left Yellowstone National Park at 6:00am and went on the longest journey of the whole trip to try and reach our destination of Crater Lake in Oregon. Rob had read up on this area and was adamant that this was the place he wanted to go more than anywhere else. We were not disappointed. The journey itself was something out of Top Gear with some of the best roads and scenery I have ever driven with Mountainous ranges and very long straight roads (just like the movies). This was great fun for all three of us and was one of the best experiences of the whole trip. The one down point was that the ever reliable Prius was not a soft top which would of made the journey truly amazing. The one thing that surprised ... read more

We managed to get around and see a lot of Yellowstone by car today. After a rough nights sleep (it gets very cold here even in height of summer) we got up early and managed to see Old Faithful which was a great experience. I would strongly recommend to people that going early you will obviously get a better photo but also beat the crowd which can hit to a big amount in the peak season. After going for a big trek up an overlook we bumped into a Canadian guy who said he had spotted three black bears and there bigger cousin a Brown in the past two days on his trek. We set out in hope and apprehension to a certain degree that we will get to spot a bear. Unfortunately there was no ... read more

After a few days on the road and trips through towns in the Rockies such as Aspen we are now set up for a couple of days at Yellowstone national park. The journey was one of the most amazing I have ever experienced, the Rockies is a must see for anyone who truly admires nature. You could easily spend a whole month in the mountains and only scratch the surface. The stop off point for us was a day in Salt Lake City which was a interesting experience. I would certainly not classify the city a a great point of interest (would actually call it dull) but the national park to the west called Antelope Island is truly a spectacle for anyone to see. The drive up through Utah was amazing and a great experience where ... read more

Arrived in Denver after a 170 mile journey - which was a walk in the park after the previous two days. Could not believe how quite Denver is, maybe everyone traveled away for the Holiday celebrations. Found a hotel in downtown Denver called the Hotel Monaco where we booked in for 2 days. Very plush place, went to Chili's for some food then a walk around the place. Walked around 16th Street mall towards the Train station and then up to find a bar, where a MASSIVE thunderstorm hit us. We had to hide under some shelter for around 30 minutes laughing at the way the locals were taking no notice at the marble sized hail hitting the ground. Got back then I talked Rob into going out for some beers around 9:00 p.m. - we ... read more

North America » United States » Iowa June 17th 2009

After our stay in Joilet we traveled through the rest of Illinois then Iowa. Iowa is a classic farming state - lovely scenery and very hot. Took about 5+ hours to drive through the state, the next state we hit was Nebraska after driving over a river into the city of Omaha. Nebraska was a great drive with very straight roads and lots of Lakes next to the I-80 to fish and generally relax and let life pass you by. The heat in the state was an eye opener, was about 90 degrees. The rest areas were very scenic to and in all a very enjoyable drive. We stopped at a place called Big Springs just on the edge of Nebraska about to enter Colorado. We travelled 700 miles.... read more

North America » United States » Pennsylvania June 16th 2009

The First day of this road trip started off in my home city of New York where we picked up our Prius car from JFK. I was expecting to be driving around in a go-cart but was pleasantly surprised and it is very good on fuel so this trip looks like it will be cheaper than first thought. Me and my buddy Rob our en-route to pick up our other friend from Denver and have two days to make the journey. We managed to get through New Jersey and Pennsylvania with consummate ease even though we managed to pass through 6 weather fronts with some exceptionally heavy rain. After Rob was stopped for speeding twice in a space of 2 hours (let off both times, as it would seem traffic police don't like to give tickets ... read more

The journey from Hagi to Osaka was a long arduous task by bus to Yamaguchi City then the Shinkansen to Osaka. The bus journey was enjoyable with the road winding over a mountainous area until we got to Yamaguchi and then jumped on the Shinkansen to go to Osaka. Getting the tickets for the bus was easy as the hotel reception rang up and booked ahead for us so that was fine. We arrived in Osaka during the night and caught the underground to the southern area to get a hotel at the travel information office. They managed to get a hotel right next to the station that was cheap for Japan, £35pp, so we checked in and went straight out to sample the prestigious nightlife of Osaka. We started out at the train station hub ... read more

Asia » Japan » Yamaguchi » Hagi October 21st 2008

Hagi City is a island city just off the Honshu mainland in South-West area of Japan. It is probably best known for its fine pottery and ancient kilns that are still running. A very picturesque place that is a hot spot for romantic getaways - unfortunately I went with my friend Ryan instead of my girlfriend. Well we arrived in Hagi after quite a long train ride from Tsuwano, about three hours. The train went along the coast after Hamada city and the views were a real spectacle. It was a really nice sunny day and we turned up at Hagi station with no real clue what the place was going to be like. We took a taxi and asked to go to a hotel near the beach as a day of relaxation on the beach ... read more

Asia » Japan » Shimane » Tsuwano October 20th 2008

We left Hiroshima and had to take the train north towards Hamada City to reach Tsuwano which is south of Hamada City. The journey there was on a train that was not Shinkansen but was still comfortable and the views from the train were spectacular. The journey was made through some beautiful mountainside and the colour of the scenery was wonderful. Tsuwano is a small town with a population of 9,000 people. It is known as little Kyoto in Japan with its beautiful feudal style buildings and castle situated on top of a mountain. It is also known for its Washi paper, Sake breweries and there local steam train that runs still once a day. We arrived in Tsuwano at 11:00am and went straight to the visitors Information office. The people in there are very helpful ... read more
