G'day! Arrrived in Cairns on Sunday 16th April at 4.15am local time. We were soon to find out that this wasn't the best time to try and find a youth hostel. We met a couple of english girls, Sian and Stacey, at the airport, who tagged along with us in search of a place to stay. We had a couple of places in mind, but they were either fully booked or the reception didn't open till 9am (Ahhhh, being jet lagged and generally knackered with a backpack on in parts unknown wasn't our idea of fun). As daylight was upon us [View Full Entry]

14th April Me and J got up really early to catch a bus from Melaka to Singapore, by 1pm we had settled in our guesthouse and were preparing for a blitz through what Singapore had to offer (We only have one night and a bit of the next day before flying to OZ). Incidentally our guesthouse is really good, it's called D'Simple and is in Little India, just a short walk from the bus station. We'd heard about accomodation prices in Singapore being a shock to the system after the 1 and 2 quid a night places in the rest of [View Full Entry]

Me and Jonny decided to head to Melaka an old colonial town of the British empire about 2 hours drive south from Kuala Lumpar, Bully and Will would catch us up the next day. We arrived at a really nice family run hostel called Melaka Town Lodge. It was approaching 6pm by the time we'd got checked in and chilled out for a while so we decided to leave all the sightseeing till the next day and go out for some food. We ended up staying out all night long. Initially we thought the place looked like a ghost town, everywhere [View Full Entry]

Alreet. This isn't about to be a tirade about Oasis' worst album, its about our visit to the Petronas towers, the heighest set of Twin Towers in the world and the second heighest building in the world (452 metres above street level). Me and Will got up to catch the 8am bus from our hostel to Petronas, when we arrived we were greeted by a huge windey cue of people cuing up to get tickets to go to the viewing bridge, which connects the two Towers. The tickets are free but only about 1500 are given out every day, hence the [View Full Entry]

Hey hey. Me and Wils arrived in Kuala Lumpur in the late afternoon of 8th April. The first thing that strikes you when you get off the bus is how modern everything looks. In the 1990s their was an economic boom in Malaysia and since then in KL high-rise buildings have been spurting up by the bucketload. Before i start telling you of all my Capital adventures can i just give a personal message to Andy: Before you start getting excited Andy by the title of my blog, i should inform you that I used such a title because Oompa Loompa [View Full Entry]

We arrived in the Cameron Highlands in the late afternoon of the 6th April and stayed in a guesthouse that overlooked the town of Tanah Rata. As the name suggests the Cameron Highlands are pretty high, this coupled with the fact that we're pretty much in rainy season meant that it was lashing it down much of the time. Our guesthouse, Fathers guesthouse, came recommended from the place we stayed at in Penang- it looked ok on paper but it did feel as if we were back at school. There were signs everywhere in the guesthouse saying "don't bring in any [View Full Entry]

Left Thailand on 3rd April and crossed the border into Malaysia, was such an easy border crossing- Yeah you look handsome enough in you get typed mentality! Was really curious as to what Malaysia was going to be like, the country's 85% Muslim so i was wondering how this would affect the pepole's attitudes and way of life. Our first stop in Malaysia was Penang Island, particularly the port town of Georgetown (named after King George III). We Crossed into Georgetown from mainland Malaysia by a short Ferry trip (There is actually a 13km bridge that joins Penang to the mainland, [View Full Entry]

Bonjourno, we managed to get to Hat Yai and book into a cheap hostel on 1st April. After the travelling from Krabi we didn't get much of a chance to explore much before darkness descended (We did however manage to get a KFC, sooo cheap over here for a Zinger meal!) The Thai Prime Minister is in hot water at the mo, he's been accused of corruption many times in the past but this time it's really serious- There've been protests around the country for weeks demanding he stands down. The situations got so bad that he has called an election [View Full Entry]

Hey, after checking out of our guesthouse in Au Nang we decided to check out a nearby beach that you had to get a longtail boat to, Hat Ton Sai. It only took 10 minutes by boat to get there but the differences from Ao Nang were apparent as soon as we docked. The beach had a row of about 10 bars on it, all relatively quiet and the beach was dominated by huge cliffs, parts of which overhanged onto the beach (Very useful if you want to stay in the shade!) Ton Sai seems to be a haven for rock [View Full Entry]

Hey y'all. Arrived in Krabi from Ko Phi Phi on 28th March, we decided to avoid Krabi town itself and head straight for the nearest beach resort, Ao Nang. There were a few cheap guesthouses so it is a backpacker destination in one sense, on the other hand a lot of the tourists seemed to be scandinavians on package holidays. On our first night we went out to a few bars, one with a Rock Music theme called Encore Cafe it was nicely decked out with posters of John Lennon, Bob Marley, Led Zepplin and suchlike on the walls and ceilings.
