Your pics are so beautiful Sarah! You put me to shame - I'm from the North-east of England and I've never been to Dunstanburgh, but I really want to go now. I have been to Bamburgh Castle though - it's pretty too. Great blogging!
OK now I read this entry. I'm jealous you two got to meet up!
Albert, Rachel, and I ventured into the rain/ice/snowstorm and walked 20 minutes to Christine's for her party. Bad timing on Halloween weekend! Fortunately we didn't lose any power, but some people in CT and elsewhere in MA didn't have power as of a couple days ago, ugh.
Fireworks! I love fireworks when it is cold out! The fireworks during FebFest at Hamilton were so fun (though I always watched them from inside).
I didn't see your last entry yet but now I need to go back and read it :)
"Wooaaahh!" Great pictures Sarah! They came out quite well. I've just read that the tradition made it to the US in ye olden days, but it was called Pope Day, and has now fizzled out. Also, strictly speaking, Guy Fawkes night isn't a national holiday, but any excuse to wrap up warm, eat toffee apples, light fires and set off fireworks is well worth celebrating for me!
I can definetely relate to jarring realizations that your not in Vermont and more. Although I was quite as aclimated as you two are, it still happened.
And about the snowstorms I passed a car abandoned on notch road* at some point last night. Somehow the thought of less prepared people having to walk in the middle of a snowstorm made my day.
*The car wasn't crashed just left in the middle of the road.**
**Yes I am coping your asterisk thing.
Zebra Crossings I was about to act all smart and post on the last entry what zebra crossings are (I learned in Scotland) when I decided to check the next two entries (I'm a little behind). So in the last two minutes I went from excited to know something you didn't to sad that you already knew it to glad I didn't make myself look like an idiot and post the answer when you already had to realizing I like parenthetical asides to writing really really long sentences.
cool pictures! Can't believe they've got you working already... But that will give you a chance to get to know the others in your program.
Skype soon??
Yay, posting a comment worked! Glad you're settling in and liking it so far! The programme does sound really intense, though. Newcastle looks really nice - I'll have to come and see it for myself sometime soon-ish! :-)
the end??? Your writing and the pictures will have me running to my library in the morning to grab Cooper's books. Delightful, insightful and completely entertaining. I hope I get to see lots more of your writing!
