We flew out of Iguazu on Friday night and arrived late to our hostel. At check in they were offering a tour that left the next morning to go to the salt flats and through the mountains nearby. We decided to book it and headed off to bed for a 5 a.m. wake up call the next morning! Even the lonely planet said the tour we were about to undertake was pretty gruelling but we decided it would be worth. 15 hour bus ride through the mountains Boy was it ever. By 7 am we were starting our climb into the arid desert mountains of Salta. Salta itself is located at 1800 m above sea level and this trip would take us up as high as 4200 m. The drive through the lower mountains as the ... read more

The falls are spectacular! There are no words to describe it. We spent the entire day there wandering the various trails and taking pictures every 10 metres or so. The pictures will have to speak for me. I´ll try to upload the best of the hundred or so taken haha. We decided to try and get up early to be at the falls first thing. We stayed up a bit too late partying so the wakeup was a little harder than we thought... However, we still managed to get there by 9 am. It´s definitely worth it to get there as early as possible. Between 9 and 11, the park wasn´t too crowded and you could even take pictures without other people in them. The water level is up pretty high so the volume of water ... read more

Argentina buses rock! Señor Snapper endorses them whole heartedly. When you book Cama suite or executive, its first class all the way. The seats recline completely, you get individual tv monitors, they serve you wine and champagne and meals at your seat. Our 20 hr bus ride from BA to Iguazu was pretty comfortable. Señor Snapper made himself right at home! Arrived at Iguazu around 1:30 and headed straight to what turned out to be a luxury hostel. Before we´d even put down our bags, Leah had us booked on a jungle adventure - rapelling, zip lining and hiking through the jungle. Unfortunately Señor Snapper didn´t fit in the harness so he didn´t get to go on this particular adventure. The rapelling took place on a 12 metre high waterfall. You drop off the top of ... read more

South America » Argentina » Buenos Aires » Buenos Aires September 2nd 2009

We woke up to perfect weather. THe sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. Several people had mentioned an antique market on Florida Ave. that only happens on Sundays so we decided to check it out. It was fabulous! Great artisans, lots of street performers playing music, dancing salsa or whatever. Too bad the suitcase doesn´t have extra room for too much shopping. Andrea´s clothes are really taking up a lot of space! We walked most of the length of Ave. Florida and ended up in Plaza de Mayo. Beautiful square in one of the oldest parts of BA. We came upon La Casa Rosada and ended up on a Spanish only tour. I can´t really tell you much about the place other than what I gathered from looking around. It´s basically the ... read more

Señor Snapper has finally made it to Argentina! There was a very LONG flight but luckily only one hour time change. The view of the Andes from the plane was spectacular. Señor Snapper is looking forward to when he can climb one of them! Exhausted but happy, we arrived in Buenos Aires and headed straight for the hostel for a siesta. In true Argentinian fashion we headed out for dinner sometime after 8 p.m. and started with tapas and drinks. We didn´t start dinner until after 10. We went to a restaurant called Milion - food was delicious and the rest of the night was spent aquaintin ourselves with Argentinian pubs. Señor Snapper´s not feeling so hot this morning so were off to a slow start. ... read more

Señor Snapper has been very busy packing and planning for his trip to Patagonia. Only a couple days left and still lots to do. Señor Snapper is worried there may not be enough space in his shell to bring everything he needs. Luckily, his companions Andrea and Leah have extra space in their suitcases! ... read more
