Getting ready for 8:30 this morning was a teeny bit difficult, especially when we didn't get to bed until 1:30 last night. Walking downstairs we awaited the rest of the group and then all of us climbed onto the bus. Our first stop was to the public university in Puebla; it's a huge campus with gorgeous architecture and amazing pieces of artwork hung around campus. Naturally, everyone in the group was hungry by the time we got to the university so thank goodness our professors had arranged for us to eat first! We ate at this cute little french bistro that is situated right near the front entrance of the university. I will admit, it was extremely odd to be eating at a french restaurant while in Mexico, but no one was complaining because it looked ... read more

Today started off like any other normal day... If you call waking up in a foreign, yet great, city normal ;) After grabbing a quick bite to eat we were given our first assignment! Each student was paired up with another (aka roommate) and were assigned a street to walk up while taking notes on the kinds of stores that you see on that street. At the end of our 'street walk' we were to meet up at this kitchen museum that was also an ex convent. When we got to the museum we were shown into the 'kitchen area', it was seriously so cool!! It was interesting to go 'back in time' and see how some kitchens were. They even had a fridge area; the fridge area was really a separate room that supposedly had ... read more

Today started bright and early -not too early thank goodness!! We started off our day by going to a restaurant that was just a short distance away. One would think that walking a short distance wouldn't be a huge ordeal, but when you're trying to get 20 people to get from point A to point B while having to cross multiple roads. We did manage to make it there without anyone getting hit by a car so, yay! We pretty much filled up the restaurant with our 20 person family; the people working there were extremely nice however and didn't seem too bothered by it. Before we ordered they brought out a gorgeous basket of an assortment of breads. All of which I wanted to eat. All. Of. It. Don't worry guys, I did no such ... read more

What a day!! Can I just say that I am so glad to have finally landed in Mexico. it was quite the shit show of a day, shall we start? Me being myself, i knew what I wanted to pack, however, I didn't pack until 2 days before I left. That meant that I was going to spend the night before my flight packing until the wee hours (or until my eyes started closing) and then wake up early the morning of my flight and finish packing all of my 'last minute' items. Lets do some math; my flight was at 8:20, I had to be there 2 hours before that time so that brought us to 6:20; it takes approx. 20 minutes to get to the airport which brings us to 6; then I have ... read more

Hello all! I recently posted that I will be going to Mexico very shortly here, well, in addition to that, I'm also planning on going on another trip at the end of August. This trip will be another once-in-a-lifetime experience. For two weeks I will be spending time in Costa Rica and Nicaragua working with local doctors in remote villages to set up free mobile clinics, providing critical health care to those who live in poverty and are in need of health care. I won't be doing any surgeries or doing anything too crazy -I'm trying to help, NOT cause more problems :) Obviously, myself, and every other person on the trip, won't be administering any medications/ prescriptions without consulting with the doctor first! This trip is not cheap -I will say that much. Yes I ... read more

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack :) and so incredibly over joyed to be here typing again. Not that I'm particularly great at writing, nor get ecstatic over writing, however, writing here can only mean one thing. . . . . . . . If you didn't guess by now ... Spoiler alert! It means I'm going on another trip!!!!!! I'm leaving for the trip in 29 and a half days, the day right after my (19th) birthday to be exact. Words truly cannot describe how much I've been missing Mexico and how excited I am to have the grand opportunity to go back! Originally I was only supposed to go for 2 weeks for a 'field study group trip' through my university, but later I figured, since I'll already be in Mexico I might as well go back to ... read more

Vacations officially started one week ago today. For the past week I honestly haven’t done anything except stay at my friends house. Last saturday (16th of April) my friend and I went to a friends birthday party-man, it seems like everyone had their birthday last week- it was really fun, and a great way to practice my Spanish (apart from the whole livng in a Spanish speaking country). Alex (birthday boy) had a few friends at his party, but most of the people there were his cousins, and there was also some aunts/uncles and his parents.I talked to his cousins (in Spanish of course) through most of the night. It was pretty funny- and just another example of how different people are here in comparison to those in Canada-every time one of the guys would say ... read more

Saturday: Cumple de Ricky!!!! Up bright and early Saturday morning, although not sure why... I felt half dead... However, I got up anyways and a cringing 8 o’clock and got ready for my day to begin!! I didn’t do anything really except put on my workout clothes-I was going to the gym at 10. First of all I would like to say I LOVE this gym, the membership basically includes everything (classes, squash, swimming pool, pool tables, etc.) except the pilates reformers and that freaky machine that is advertised on tv that doesn’t anything besides make your body-fat included-jiggle.... So as much as I would love to see that, can’t say I’d be shelling out the money for that anytime soon, oh and the gym is less than 2 blocks from the house. The first class ... read more

Sorry I haven't been writing as much as I have been, but I haven't really been doing anything exciting lol. The Fruteria has become my favorite place to get fruit from in Santa Tere. It's generally cheap and the fruit is always soooo sweet. I'm pretty sure we went everyday that weekend and each time was amazing. The other day we went and she had strawberries for sale as well the usual fruit for sale, so we bought 1 little watermelon, 1 little pineapple, and half a kilo of strawberries, in total it cost about 46 pesos. The next day we wanted to make smoothies so we headed to the Fruteria again. We didn't see any strawberries in the shop but I figured I would ask just in case, turns out she did still have some ... read more

It’s been a little bit since I’ve written, I guess the best excuse I can come up with is that I’ve been busy. Late nights and early mornings have definitely taken their toll. Anywho... The weather here is getting increasingly warmer which is always lovely :) *I’m going to skip ahead a week, so the following will be about the past week* The past week has been about getting ready for final exams again! It seems like just last week we were doing exams for the first partial. It’s so crazy to think that after this week, there’s two more weeks of school and then we’re off for two weeks for spring break, and after that we only have one month left of school!!! Time has flown by incredibly fast and it’s sort of freaking me ... read more
