Not much happened since the last Blog entry...:-), but lets begin from the start. We stayed again some time in Taranaki, where we enjoyed playing golf with sheep in between…sometimes they also got shot..;-)..Stupid sheep! We did a lot of surfing in Taranaki, Nik convinced me this time to publish more surf pics, as i find them more or less all the same, but don't tell him! A new piece of electronic is now part of our stuff; nik bought the new gopro - hero2, which really takes fantastic pics, even under water. Was quite fun to film duckdives or kayaking in the surf. The Gopro was also a reason why we headed to the Coromandel Peninsula again, to do a short kayak trip to the Cathedral Cove. Although we have been there 2 months ago, ... read more

So far we have left the south Island and are back in the warm north island! After Kaikoura we headed towards Christchurch and did a bit sight-seeing, the inner city was still completely closed after the last big earthquake in February 2011. There is a rumour going on that they are waiting for the next big earthquake, that’s why they hadn’t started rebuilding yet. We celebrated my birthday at Mount Cook, again with Claudio, Kerstin and Christian (CKC). There we were lucky with the weather, the day when we arrived, the 19th, it was raining and the mountain was hiding behind huge clouds, but when I awake the next day, sun was shining and gave a beautiful view of the snowy mountains. We did a short hike until the start of the glacier, so it was ... read more

Now it’s been a very long time since the last entry, we were quite busy searching for the next surf and the next kajak session. I won’t write that much as we realized that less and less people are reading our blog! Anyway, after some days in Raglan we headed towards Rotorua, were the famous geysers of nz are, impressive and very smelly...We found a pretty nice campground with hot water pools and enjoyed there two days of very rainy weather. The next week we spent again in Raglan where I (Sabine) bought a new surfboard, now it starts to make fun again as it is a little bigger than the old one and finally I can catch some waves. As the week in raglan was very rainy, I started doing yoga classes with Monica (thanks ... read more

Had been a long time, we got a bit lazy...Our New Zealand adventure started exciting, on the first day we bought our new home, a Mitsubishi Delica 4wd, basically the same car we had in South America but a lot higher and made for off-road! During buying we made new friends with Rainer and Birgit, with whom we will spend Xmas! After a couple of days in Auckland, where I visited the university (Thanks to Dr. Mike O'Sullivan who really cared(s) about me), we made our first trip, Coromandel peninsula! Very beautiful there, The Far North, Cathedral Cave and Hotwater beach are worth a visit! Also the first nights in Jimmy (the Delica) were really comfy, despite to South America this car does not leak when it rains. After that we returned to Auckland where another ... read more

...the rookie South America mistake...we entered Argentina via the Paso Jama in the Andes, fuelling up our car in San Pedro heading for Susques to stop, refresh and get gas. On top of the pass (which goes up to 4830) we saw a pretty big and open gas station with a sign in front of it saying "Next gas station Susques 115km", so we decided to drive by...big mistake, in Argentina when you find a station that is open and actually sells gas, refill!! There were two estaciones de servicio in Susques, the first probably destroyed by the Spanish when conquering South America and the second one selling only Diesel...F***!! The next one was supposed to be 160km downhill, our calculations said that we have gas for approximately 140km under normal conditions (in the altitude the ... read more

Leaving Arica our next stop was San Pedro de Atacama in the heart of the Atacama desert. It is a lovely tourist town that definitely kept its flair. Our stay was also defined by a very touristic but stunning program, starting with a trip to the Salar de Atacama, a giant salt plain with a lots of Flamingos and some beautiful lakes. The second day we enjoyed the pool at the hotel we were camping at (at the parking place, still not cheap),Sabine went on horseback riding in the afternoon and the third day we splitted up, Sabine took a tour to the famous Tato geysir and I climbed a vulcano which was over 5600m high, very exhausting but both exciting! During our whole stay we had two companions, Conny our new German friend (thanks for ... read more

So, has been a long time since we posted something on our blog! The reason is that after our return from Peru we got kinda stuck in Arica, but in a good way! It felt really nice to have some sort of a home (the hostel is really nice, thanks to Kurt by the way) and we spent the days with surfing, relaxing on the beach and hanging out with our new friends Adam from Brisbane and Fabiola from Zürich! Surfing was really great, got used to La Isla and had some good days. We also did a day trip to the Bolivian boarder which is situated in the stunning National Park Lauca. So there is not much to report except that we really enjoyed the last weeks. Next stop, San Pedro de Atacama...... read more

Well Peru, reading the first lines about our Peru-experience you might think it sucked! Read it to the end! We started early morning in Arica, lucky for us David joined our way up to the first town after the boarder, Tacna. Customs and the boarder went well, although it took ages to get it done. Arriving in Tacna we got the feeling that there is something wrong with the car, a couple meters later it got really hot and we stopped immediately! Water ran out, steam all over the place, in one word broken. David, who speaks Spanish, arranged a taxi which brought me (Nik) to a mechanic-workshop. Sabine stayed by the car meanwhile. The guy owning the workshop was supposed to tow us away; however he didn't feel a hurry! I had a really bad ... read more

The way north to Arica took us two days, spending the night at a beach close to Antafogasta. Staying in Arica felt really like going on a vacation. We met really nice guys from New Zealand and David from Germany, which pushed the surfing a little bit (thanks for that by the way)! Had some pretty relaxed days, nice BBCs and made plans for Peru...... read more

Still having our base camp in Guanaqueros we made a second week-end trip to the Isla Damas National Park. The islands are famous for their wildlife, most of all for the Humboldt penguins, but also the view itself is quite stunning, which we experienced at a real nice kayak trip and a boat trip to the islands. Returning to Guanaqueros we got some surfing done, waves were not that good but still fun. After two weeks in the La Serena region we finally went north, on the way we wanted to visit Tres Cruces National Park. Actually we did, somehow. The park is at 3800m and to get there you have to go over a pass with 4200m above sea level. Turns out that having breakfast at the beach and driving to 4200m within 10 hours ... read more
