The Sunday market in Chang Mai is incredible, & takes up most of the city centres 1.5 sq Km. Artisans from all over the area come to ply their wares, anything from silks to highly elabourate wooden carvings. The streets throng with people & the temples are taken over by stalls serving food.... read more

I've just arrived in Chiang Mai after a 13 hour overnight train journey to the North. The train was an experience in itself, with the seats converting into bunk beds, & pillows & a sheet supplied. Much more civilised than I expected, & definately better than British Rail! Chiang Mai is a big city, but with a slow pace of life. Totally different to Bangkok! I will be going out soon to explore, but expect it to be a great place to experience. I will let you know how I get on. ... read more

Arrived 2 hours late after delays in Kuwait. Had a good flight overall and had met an interesting chap on the plane - James Stallibrass, travelling to Thailand to spend time illustriting a book (James, it will be interesting to see the results, so keep in touch). Shared a Taxi into Bangkok centre & had a big ruck with the taxi driver after droping James off at his hotel!!!!! Manged to sort it out before being dropped off at the "KC Guest House" in the Banglumpoo district. Not a bad place but no internet or aircon which was a bit disapointing as it was supposed to be part of the deal. The six million dollar question is......... what do I think of Bangkok? Well............ when I arrived, my first thoughts were oh my god! Pollution, traffic, ... read more
