Hi everyone - well we have now made it to the UK and are preparing for our vantastic tour of Europe. We landed last Saturday week and set up camp in a hostel at Greenwich for a couple of days to find our feet and get over a little bit of jet lag. London was a bit of a wake up call cash wise, with a mental flinch accompanying every price conversion we did after being so used to the costs of India and Asia. However the biggest change greeted us when we got up on Sunday morning to SNOW coating [View Full Entry]

Hi there, we have now effectively completed our Indian leg of our travels and presently await our next flight to London tonight! We have really enjoyed India but can honestly say we are ready for somewhere a bit quieter, that smells nice, and serves beef :-) After our trek in Nepal we headed back into India to the Holy city of Varanasi on the banks of the mighty Ganges. Varanasi was quite a different experience to the other Indian cities we have visited in that all the interesting stuff is all on the ghats (landings) leading down to the bank of [View Full Entry]

Hi everyone. Well after a break of about two weeks we have returned from our trek in Nepal. Our much awaited train tickets spirited us up to Gorakhpur, a biggish city acting as a transport hub and popular jumping off point for the Nepalese boarder. A pretty slow bus trundled us up to Nepal, and an even slower creakier bus took us on to Pokhara our main base in Nepal. After a busy day rushing around town we found ourselves a guide/porter to carry most of our gear and make sure we didn't get lost, as well as sourcing some hire [View Full Entry]

Hello from Southern Rajasthan. We have spent the last week steadily travelling eastward, and are now at a cross-roads in our Indian travels with Agra in sight. Udaipur was the first place we have seen for a while with water.... yes water just sitting out in the open minding its own business. We stayed right in the center of things close to the Ghats (stepped concrete landing spots on the water) adjacent to the lake palace. Sorry, we don't have any photos of the palace interior as it is an ultra-luxury hotel where non-guests can only land if they wear something [View Full Entry]

Camel Safari! Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jodhpur
Hi from the depths of Rajasthan, the desert state of India. Since our last post we have visited Jaisalmer and Jodhpur - both homes to their own respective Maharaja about 500 years ago. Each town is looked down on by its resident fort, which usually includes the Maharaja's palace. However, before we get stuck into buildings, we have to tell you about the camel safari we did. It was three days in the great Thar Desert; with a camel mount for each of us. Unluckily our guides had their camel taken back by their boss on the last day to help [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone - we have now made it to India. We are one week in and are coping fine, although Simon has been struck down with our first case of "Delhi Belly" and we both picked up colds because Northern India is a whole lot colder than SE Asia. We flew into Delhi late at night to be greeted by fog, dust, wandering street cows and locals clustered around small rubbish fires (in the street) to keep warm. It was kind of hard to get a clear view of much, although some of the street smells we picked up loud and [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, we have now finished the South East Asian leg of our travels. Onwards to India tonight! Our last stop in central Thailand was at the Sukhothai ruins, which were mostly the remains of the Siamese empires temples before they moved further south to avoid the Burmese. We were a bit stiff after the elephant riding so did this site via a Tuk Tuk charter, which was pretty nice when the heat started to increase. After snapping a bunch of photos (attached) we headed out of town to Ko Tao island in southern Thailand via a 10 hour train, followed [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone - we are now in central Thailand. Since our last entry we have taken a slow boat upriver on the Mekong to cross from Laos into northern Thailand. This was great - we would thoroughly recommend the upriver run - heaps of room on board, with the boat moving slow enough that you get a really good look at the sights and scenery drifting by. The cold drinks and nibbles available also helped! We probalby would not recommend the opposite trip going downstream - the boats we saw had people packed in like sardines... Once over the boarder we [View Full Entry]

Hello from Laos! We are presently in Luang Prabang and about to spend two days on the Mekong in a slow boat heading for the border with northern Thailand. Laos has definitely been a change of pace for us. This started with our epic bus ride from Hanoi into the capital of Laos, Vientiane. This was a ride of stages, including a motocycle to a taxi pick up point, and a taxi (playing blaring dance music) to the bus station. In the taxi we also had our first "real traffic accident" since arriving (not counting a minibus running over a dog, [View Full Entry]

We have been steadily trucking up the Vietnamese coast since our last entry was posted. Our stay in Mui Ne was a nice little break on the sun loungers and with the guest house kitchen which did a great line in seafood dishes and comprised most of our costs for the stay. The weather decided to pack in on us after a few days, so it was time to start heading north again via the bus network. We had an amusing wait for our bus out of Mui Ne, which was supposed to arrive at 1.30 that afternoon. That came and [View Full Entry]
