Some messing about in boats Asia » Vietnam » Southeast » Mui Ne
Hi, we have spent the last week in southern Vietnam. In Saigon, we found a lovely guesthouse, unfortunately our room was on the 6th floor (with no lift of course). The buildings are very narrow, and there are usually only two rooms on each floor. So lots of exercise climbing up and down stairs.... As you can see from the photo, the roads are pretty much choked with motor scooters. To cross the road you just start walking slowly across it, and the scooters toot their horns and ride around you (as long as you are not moving fast). We walked [View Full Entry]

Caodist Monks or Priests (not sure which)

Well one week has gone by and we are steadly heading east towards Vietnam. Since our last posting we dropped back to Bangkok for another day before our train to the Cambodian border the following morning. The highlight of this was a visit to the "Snake Farm", on the grounds of a local hospital. An assortment of venomous snakes are kept for research and anti-venom production, with a show illustrating a range of snakes, venom collection, snake feeding and a chance to cuddle up to a friendly Boa Constrictor. We also took in a couple more temples and spent the afternoon [View Full Entry]

Hey everybody - we are now officially on the road so to speak. It is one week in since we touched down in KL, and we are now getting ready to head east into Cambodia in a couple of days. KL was a great place to start with a metro which went everywhere that we wanted, and locals who generally spoke English. We also started on our penny pinching drive and started hitting the street stalls whenever we saw something interesting or that we recognized as food :-) The only down side is that the booze costs an arm and a [View Full Entry]

Simon: 25th November Well, I'm glad that I took the time to check out the back yard. Seven days of almost continuous riding and 4000+ KM covered saw myself and Jet circuit the South Island - and best of all: NO SPEEDING TICKETS!! (speed cameras excluded…). This was definitely a whistle stop tour more focused on the riding and scenery than leaning about local history or buying souveniers. For those who ride, I'm on the Silver VFR 800 (comfy sports tourer), while Jet has the Blue CBR 600RR Movistar (a race bike not designed for comfort or fuel economy…) Ive set [View Full Entry]

Simon: 28 October Things are starting to gather a bit of momentum. We are at T minus 38 days until departure and now have a tenant for Hudson Street as of Friday night. Five days remaining at work, but the house is pretty much done apart from a handful of niggling difficult little jobs which are going to be outsourced to a "hire-a-hubby". The house is emptying out rapidly and the last big job (concrete grinding the gym) has been finished. Pepper really has no clues what is going on as all the familiar stuff keeps walking out the door, but [View Full Entry]

Simon: 29 September 2007 So where to start? I guess the most obvious question to ask is why? Short answer - lots of reasons. Long answer, well, read a few more entires I suppose. For the idea - I totally blame STA travel. My subconscious mind was bathed in cycles of the same advert over and over again - sometimes even when I was paying attention. "Rock Star Ticket" the dam thing proclaimed - "behave like a twat on 5 continents ". Need less to say, it warranted investigating further. This idea percolated, as these things do, but did not dissapate [View Full Entry]
