Amazing Do I envy you? Oh yes, a million times over. My favorite pastime... job.... is meeting people and seeing places that are amazing... and you are doing it. I am so proud of you.
Hey, almost as exciting is raising a 10 year old!
Someday we'll compare notes... and with Colin as well.
inspired Your work and life is inspirational. What you are doing is admirable Bob. I am humbled to know you.
Now hurry up and come home so we can have a drink...or 2.
Picture this I love all the pictures you are now including of yourself. Kind of proves to us that you're actually there and not pampering yourself in Paris!
YIKES! SNAKES! I'm not crazy about them either, for sure, Bob...wow every time I look on the blogs I'm filled with inspiration...you are in God's country, doing God's work, and no matter how hard - how incredible! The task of harvesting rice by hand, without any machines is just an amazing thing in my mind...very strong people, not complaining, just getting it done....I love you and miss you, blessings all around you, my friend, and thank you for the blogs - they really do fill my heart...LoveYa, Bob! xoxoxo, Monica
Beauty and the Baggy Bobby, what a vast beautiful scene. I will call this pic, Beauty and the Baggy. You look great. And of course you are missed dear Token.
that is quite the chicken picture....i don\'t even know what to say - but I too would have gotten my guard to do it up....those feet really gross me out
Canada Day Hi Bob - you certainly know how to celebrate Canada Daay !
What's this business about Celone - SHE IS MY FAVOURITE .
Thanks for your bloog I am learning a lot about Tananzania . Cathy
Your Anniversary!! Congratulations, Robert, at reaching the half-way milestone of your commitment. It doesn't feel that long ago that we toasted you and sent you on your way. May you and the work continue to be worthy of one another.
I sat at dinner recently with a gentleman who was born in Tanzania--a community starting with "G", thought it was one you had been to. His family moved to Uganda and experienced the Idi Amin rise and regime, before deciding that Canada looked like a much better bet.
On that note, my radio came on this morning with Lightfoot singing his 'Trilogy'. Apropos. Hamilton's fireworks in my neighbourhood tonight. No sign of the insanity descending yet! Oh Canada!
Postcard Hey Bob
Thanks for the great postcard. Love it. So did the grandkids. Peter & I and the whole family are headed off to the UK for a fortnight. We will be back before the Olympics start up. Going to a wedding in Ireland and then to London for a few days. Your Mediteranean trip sound fantastic. Keep us posted. Love you lots. Deb xoxoxo
Sweet Wrap Gesture Bobby, what can I say? What a sweet gesture and fantastic way to create new traditions abroad. Wouldn't it be a wonderful tribute to have Wrap Parties continue after you have completed this mission. Imagine the gradification and warmth you will feel in the future when this continues. Yet another benefit of you being there.
Gotta Be Willing to Try . . . The account of your party reminded me of the first time I cut a huge salmon into steaks. At the time it seemed very challenging. Good on you!
Mothers' Day This made me weep. For all that you share in these blogs and do on your adventure, I am so proud of you Bob and inspired by you. Love, Jack
So Sweet, So you Bobby,
I simply adore you and this Mother's Day tribute. And what a great shot of the two of you together. And can I tell you? I love her perm. What a sweetheart.
Too funny! I am sorry, they are truly beautiful flowers and so vibrant. How hilarious though, red ones, orange ones, yellow ones, oh and yellow-orange ones. I love it bob!
Sad! What a reality check for all of us to read your blog. I feel a bit disgusted with myself when I think of stupid things in life I complain about. When you said they live in row houses, I was thinking of North American row houses and then I say the photo of their row houses, wow. In the photos they look so serious and sad and I guess with good reason. You must feel very emotional in some of these settings. Thanks for sharing! Eleanor
Patricia I am always taken with how tidy, well dressed/groomed the locals are. Patricia--given she is a seamstress--looks far more professional than the interviewer. How is it that the locals appear so personally attended when they are operating under such adverse conditions?
Vic Falls Trip What a lucky bas***d! But seriously, your shots of the Falls are amazing, even postcard-esque. Can't understand why you didn't go for the zipline. Maybe a few more beers and you could have shown those vendors how Canooks get their thrills.
Devin says "Hi, Bob! I really liked your pictures of the Falls. You should save up your money and buy no-man's-land and charge people a toll to walk across it." Good idea, huh?
Glad you're getting to experience so much there and hopefully it makes up for the less desirable times. You are in our thoughts, stay well, be happy.. the Darlingtons.
I left Canada on July 1st, 2011 and traveled to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I am happy to say that this adventure is beyond my expectations.
First and foremost, my work with Femina (www.feminahip.or.tz) is great. Femina is a multimedia platform and civil society organization. It provides information and encourages open dialogue with Tanzanian youth, families and communities on important topics like sexual and reproductive health, economic empowerment and citizen engagement. Their approach provides voice to youth and gets them engaged in topics related to improving their lives.
