SUNDAY -- Day 5 Another day off for me! Beth was out of the house by 5:30 am to go do rounds at "The Big Farm"; I stayed in bed and slept as if I were on vacation. In the afternoon we went for a walk on the path beside the road going away from Hofheim, then cut over, went through another little town, then made our way back home. Today wasn't as sunny as yesterday, but still warm enough. Some of the trees are holding their fall yellows and reds beautifully! And then we got to see the sun [View Full Entry]

All Saints Day Europe » Germany
DAY 4 Beth gave me the day off, so I got to sleep in. It was an absolutely gorgeous Saturday (high of 14 degrees C). I sat outside on the porch/patio enjoying the SUNSHINE! In the afternoon Beth took me for a walk around her town, Hofheim. It's fairly small, and since today is "All Saints Day" all the stores were closed. (Yesterday we had to buy enough food stuff to last until Monday because of the holiday today and then the stores are closed on Sundays). I had fun being the "tourist" though! Taking pictures of signs, buildings. All [View Full Entry]

More Cows Europe » Germany » Bavaria
Day 3 Another early day ... we left at 5:30 am, arriving at "The Big Farm" by 6:15. This farm has the clinic do all their cow checks, shots, etc. Most places can administer their own penicillin, oxytocin, etc. But this place is so big that they have a vet from the clinic come in each morning to do "the rounds". I joked that Beth reminded me of a nurse as she went from cow to cow with her cart of meds and card file for the history of each one. I wondered the barn a bit, feeling sorry for [View Full Entry]

SNOW and CASTLES Europe » Germany
Day 2 OK, Beth and I had a lovely 2 hour drive to the farm in the early morning. I especially loved the change from rain to SNOW!!! That's really why I came to Germany, I couldn't wait for the snow any longer in Kalamazoo! On the way back home we stopped at a castle in Coburg. The air was so fresh and crisp. I had been falling asleep in the car, but the little walk and exploring woke me up. There is something incredibly still and peaceful about the air here. There seems to be a natural hush over [View Full Entry]

Playing Vet For a Day Europe » Germany » Thuringia
Today I got to be "VET FOR A DAY". (Just to warn you ... most of the stuff dealing with cows and farms is written for my sister Angel, just so she can live it all vicariously.) Beth works for a clinic that works for farms all over the area (some farms are more than 2 hours away). The practice has been around for a while, does quality work and really is the only one in the region that does this type of medicine. This morning Beth and I were out the door by 6am for a two hour drive to [View Full Entry]

Hallo! Well, I guess I just can't stay in one place for too long! I'd only been in Michigan for little over two months and already I'm traveling again! Actually I got my ticket for Germany last Spring while I was still in Honduras. My super-good friend, Beth, has been living in Germany and working as a veterinarian here since last Summer. She came down to visit me in Honduras last May, so I wanted to do the same for her. (really I'm just using it as another excuse to travel ... he he he. No, just kidding. The only reason [View Full Entry]

Wow! OK ... time has FLOWN by. It's hard to believe I've already been back in the states for 7 WEEKS! Part of me feels like Honduras was in a completely different life ... but another part feels as if I could wake up tomorrow and be back in the mountains of Copan or La Joya and feel just as at home as ever! The life changes God brings about are really incredible. SO! Here's a bit of a recap and catch-up for my final weeks in Honduras ... During my stay in La Joya we had 2 mission teams from [View Full Entry]

Back in the States North America » United States » Michigan » Lawton
Hi Everyone!!! WOW! So much happened during my last weeks in Honduras that I was so caught up in ENJOYING everything that I didn't make time to update the travel journal. And being back in the States has been a big transition ... so still trying to catch up with everything! But wanted to take a minute at least to say I am back in Michigan. I left Honduras August 19th and it was so much harder than I had thought it would be! What do you do when your heart is split between so many places???? My last month there [View Full Entry]

I just got back from a two day trip to Guayamaca, about an hour or two away from La Joya. It was a phenomenal trip for so many reasons... traveling with 3 incredible friends visiting a new place in Honduras meeting and staying with the family of my friends eating typical Honduran food (after not for 2 weeks) traveling up a mountain in the back of a pick-up to a childhood spot of our friends visiting the small, Christian, bilingual school where Joel worked being surrounded by the Honduran cultural again watching TV in Spanish [l [View Full Entry]
