We dropped our cars off at Amsterdam Airport and were amazed to hear we had travelled over 21,000kms over the past 15 weeks! Now it was goodbye Holland, Goodbye Europe, Hello London (for 6hrs), Hello Hong Kong (for 6hrs) and hello home! The flight home was very long and exhausting, topped off only by finding out on our arrival back in Perth that none of our luggage (all 21 pieces!) had travelled with us - that would arrive intermittently over the next few days.... Overall though, Ric's Excellend European Adventure" was a huge success in every possible way and will provide lots of wonderful memories for many years to come. Now, where to next??!!... read more

We had a goodbye party for all of my family - it was a nice time to catch up and see everyone before heading back home. A very big thank you to Pim and Marijke for their wonderful hospitality and kindness! And also thanks to Peter and Simone for being our chauffer and tour guide and simply for their good company! See you all again soon... read more

Delft is famous for its collection of traditional blue ceramics and also as the traditional burial place of the Dutch Royal Family. Our highlight had to be the delicious chips with mayo and satay sauce!!!... read more

Formula One in Rotterdam... An interesting day filled with rain, more rain and topped off with thunder, lightning and even heavier rain! Couldn't see the cars through the rain but managed to get in the newspaper as they thought my good looks deserved a "Hunk de Rotterdam" nomination!... read more

Amsterdam is a truly great place. We spent two full days enjoying all the experiences this vibrant and diverse city offered. For us, the Heineken Factory was awesome! We got a special guided tour and spent three and a half hours taking in the whole experience and dowing a few lagers! The Van Gogh Museum was very interesting, housing more than 200 hundred pieces of his work. Amazingly, I found his cut off ear in the disabled loo! The Red Light District, with its various sex shows, coffee shops and prostitutes in windows was of NO INTEREST to me whatsoever, as you can well imagine! NOt my kind of scene, although after the fourth circuit of the Red Light District, I had to be reminded of this fact and was promptly taken back to the car, ... read more

Volendam is a very touristy spot on the edge of a large lake north of Amsterdam. It is very popular for its array of traditional Dutch costume, wooden clogs and cheeses of all varieties. It was here is Volendam that we encountered a Dutch couple that looked uncannily similar to us - the four of us got along very well!!... read more

Back to Holland and then home to Perth and reality in less than two weeks.....! We did a day trip to Den Hague (with Peter and Simone), the political capital of the world, where we wandered the city visiting the Queen's residence, the Dutch Parliament Building and the World Court. We met Queen Beatrice who was hosting a visit from Queen Elizabeth II - they were quite surprised at how well they could get down and boogie after a few drinks! From there we went to Scheveningen, a popular seaside destination in Holland. I wanted to bungee jump off the end of the pier but unofrtunately it was closed.... read more

What a beautiful little place in south west Germany. We are staying in the hotel where the English Soccer Team stayed during their World Cup Campaign - the hotel is beautiful! Scenic area on The Rhine. Went for a day trip to Heidleberg where it rained but we found a great pub. We then ventured upwards to the castle area which were old ruins of a thirteenth century castle - again, very picturesque! I feel like I have used this word so many times but there is nothing that can capture the reality of it all........ Back to Holland tomorrow, and then home to Perth and reality in less than two weeks........ read more

Switzerland is honestly a place that you have to see to believe its utter beauty. It is an amazing place, and Interlaken was a great choice of place to stay right in the middle of the snow-covered Swiss Alps. The three hour drive from Milan to Interlaken turned into a 9.5 hr drive when we were stopped in traffic jam after traffic jam - people even got out of their cars and set up picnics! Once we got off the motorway, and was driving through the Alps, the scenery was spectacular and breathtaking and the roads very narrow and winding. Sometimes the steep drops got a little too close jumping out at the car every now and then We spent the first day just strolling around Interlaken. Again, flat and accessible, good shopping and most importantly, ... read more

Milano.... The world fashion capital and capital of shit food! It is quite ironic that people in $3,000.00 Versace suits queue up in McDonalds because the cuisine here is limited and tasteless if you can even find it! Oh well, it gives some relief to our ever-increasing waist lines! Our accommodation was very central in apartments overlooking the main pedestrian shopping mall. A bit like Hay Street but a great deal nicer! From our balcony, the imposing Gothic Duomo (cathedral), with over 3,000 statues, was only a stone's throw away. It was great in that everything was accessible and within walking distance. The highlight of our stay in Milan was going to see Da Vinci's "The Last Supper", made even more famous by Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code. You have to book months in advance ... read more
