I'm a Canadian student attending UBC who decided to fulfil an 11 or so year old dream to travel down to Australia and NZ. I'm currently just backpacking around, trying new things, meeting new people and having some experiences i otherwise wouldnt have a change to do.

So, its my last full day in oz. Which is increidbly sad. Am currently trying to give myself a tummy ache so that i wont miss oz right away, as its yummy food will have given me a tummy ache. Currently, i am too full to eat any more tim tams or drink any more solo at this point in time. and i dont even have a tummy ache yet :( SO, since my last post i have surfed with dolphins. which is pretty cool. My buddy tornado dave pointed them out to me on the first day, and we kept surfing until dusk because sharks dont like dolphins so we were fine. I nearly fell on one, and it gave me a fright. i still thought it was a shark and even lectured it until ... read more

Hey all, Sorry about the time gap. Things seem to keep popping up, or shutting down in my laptops case. Fingers crossed that this post manages to make it onto the net. SO, bad news. The ocean ate my camera. and i did cry. In fact since the 4th (which is the fateful day when a little bit of me died inside ), i keep having issues keeping track of my stuff. NIck and i left Wollongong on the 6th. He had originally been planning on going over to christchurch in NZ, but ended up changing his plane ticket so that we could spend a little time together and he could meet up with some Norweign friends before they left the country for good. We ended up boarding a train at about 4pm, for a 13 ... read more

Hey all, sorry about the gaps from posts. I've been pretty busy, and no where near computers with internet. which is pretty much becoming my lifes story. I ended up going back to queenstown, getting a haircut, and getting some other errands done. I left from the Dunedin the next day, which is the most Scottish city in all NZ, if anyone was wondering. Because i was on a timeline (for the first time in my trip, i had somewhere to be) i could only stay one night there. I ended up doing the 'Elm Wildlife Tour' where we got to go see Albatross (we got to see breeding pairs, as they only come to shore to nest; the little chicks were white and fluffy, as well as being fairly heavy for their size), as well ... read more

So, i ended up going to see Terminator Salvation, as it was the first thing about to play when i got the the cinema. I will say nothing other then it was great, and i cant wait for its dvd release. and i cried, but i guess that last bit isnt really much of a surprise to most. I also ended up watching the simpsons movie that night, and cant help but wonder WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PIG!????????? Yesterday i finally got to board a bus heading to Milford Sound, and i will admit that i slept until about the small town of Te Anu (which means either glowworm caves or fast rushing water, depending on who you talk to), which is about 2 1/2 hours away from queenstown. From there we carried on through the ... read more

SO, i survived the higest bungy jump in NZ. Its called Nevis, and is a 134 m plummit. I arrived at the spot in a small van full of people, at probably 10am. Lucky me, i got to 'test it out' to make sure it was 'safe for everyone else.' Aka, i got to go first. Which i was totally fine with until i got onto the friggin small platform, looked over the edge and saw just how high i was. The difference between this and skydiving is that when skydiving, you know your falling but nothing gets a lot closer as quickly. its more like falling through molasis compared to water. And as things would have it, as i was working up my courage to go plummting, the guy working there gave me a bit ... read more

Hey all, am currently in the surprisingly small town of Queenstown. Its much more like a little town or city than the adreline capital of the world (i saw a sign saying that today as i walked around). Since i last posted, I've been to the city of Greymouth, on the way saw the Pancake rocks, which are a geoglogic formation of i think igneous rocks, which have been pressed together over time and formed distinct layers. I guess alot of people see them as pancake stacks, hence the name. It was a pretty neat thing to see, and we came across what looked like a palm tree, but was actually the biggest lilly in the world. So i have bragging rights on all the so called green thumbs now. On my first night in Greymouth, ... read more

hey all, After leaving kaikoura we headed up to a little town called Picton. On the way there we stopped at a vineyard called Montana's, which i guess exports a lot of wine to the Uk and area as everyone on the bus (it was pretty much an irish fest) got very excited. Learned quite a bit about wine there, and once again that i'm not a very big fan of red wine, got fairly happy, and then we all piled back onto the bus. Some people started to sing drinking songs, but their accents became so thick you could only understand everyother word or so. Most people were not getting off at Picton. Its just a little stop on the way, where all the people going to the North Island get off to get onto ... read more

Hey all, sorry about the delay. its been a little more then a week since my last post, but hopefully no one really noticed that.... Anywho, to bring everyone up to date: Last sunday, May 24, i ended up breaking down and buying uggs. Its friggin cold here!!! If you check out a map, you'll see that NZ is located fairly close to Antartica, so i feel justified and that i havent utterly failed at the Canadian ability to become immune to certain types of cold. They are a dark brown colour, the middle size, and because they were hand made by the local workers, are only a size 8 (and yes, i do feel petite because of that). When you convert the price to Canadian dollars, their a steal, but a lot of things in ... read more

So, surprise! I'm now over in NZ!!! When my mom called me yesterday morning at about 9:30 am local time to chat, she asked me what i had planned for my day and i honestly told her that i had absolutely no idea. Which was the honest truth. i was mucking around the the net, with ideas of still going down to tasmania despite the ferry and websites being unagreeable. I looked on jetstar, which is an airline down here, as Lauren had told me that they have friday seat sales. Well, when she got up i made a bad joke about going to NZ, and she said go for it. we looked into it, and the two days to go were either that day, on a 5:50 plane, or on sunday with the plane leaving ... read more

Hey all, two posts in two days, WOOOO! So, i did end up going to Wicked the other night, and it was better then expectation! I got there an hour or so early, to get mt ticket and have a look around before the show. It turns out that i didnt need to be there that early, but i ended up meeting some pretty interesting people who were also seeing the show. There was a mother-daughter pair who were there to watch the show, and it turned out that the daughter had seen the same musicals as me (lion kind and spamalot) and in the same order. which i thought was pretty wild. we had a more proper pair of ladies sitting between us, so that prevented any talking after that. The first half ended with ... read more
