Its always great to be home! Seeing family and friends and picking up right where you left everything. After 14 hours of flying we arrived in weyburn safe and sound! The flying went fairly well untill our flight from Calgary to Regina! Becuase of the storm over Regina, not only did we have the most and bumpiest turbulance ever but we had to circle Moose Jaw 4 times waiting untill it was safe enough to land. I don't think I'll be getting on plane antime soon! ... read more

Hong Kong is a city known for it's shopping, sky high buildings and unique blend of Eastern and Western heritage. Becuase our lack of funds we were limited to which activities we could experiences but over all we were happy with what we saw and did. Between the space museum and the science museum we were able to learn odd little facts that might come in handy later on in our lives. As we would try to "get our learn on", children would constantly jump infront of our "hands on" activity that we had been patiencetly waiting to try. I don't blame the kids. Kids will be kids. I blame the parents haha. Along with the museums we also had the chance to watch Jane Goodall's 40 minuete movie at a dome theater. The dome theater ... read more

After 5 days of; wake up, swim, eat, swim, read, eat, sleep, we were ready to head back to Bangkok to do some last minute shopping before flying back to China. Still trying to get the salt and sand out of my ears from being turned like a tumble weed in the wind from the oceans powerful waves, we boarded the ferry that would take us back to the mainland. It was a windy day. But ironically, it just had to be the warmest day of the time spent on Koh Samet. As I looked out on the open sea and began to reflect on my time spent on Koh Samet a gust of wind grabbed my hat from my head and threw it into the ocean. I thought about jumping ship to retrieve my favourite ... read more

We're told time after time to watch out for the Siem Reap to Bangkok bus scam as if it's an actual predator that walks the streets. But what the books and the people neglact to tell you is how you should go to Bangkok and what bus company you should take. For this reason we had to choose a bus and hope it would not be a bus that stops every hour and a half to make you get off the bus and eat at a restaurant that would give the bus driver "kick backs" for bringing a bus full of people. Well you can probably guess that our guess was not the correct one and yet again we were on a run down bus trying to pass the day with the "20 questions game". To ... read more

It's a bright sunny morning and my eyes are still watering from just waking up and trying to adjust to the sun that's beaming directly into my eyes. As I shimmy my way up onto a rather comfortable seat, our tuk tuk driver rev's his engine and off we go. It soon hits me like a bug hitting a windsheild, that I'm going to get to see Angkor Wat. How cool! I know nearly nothing of the history of Angkor Wat but that doesn't stop my excitement. All I know is that these magnificent structures, that spread across the country side, were built in the 12th century in honor of the King. As we wander the temples walking in one door and exiting another we study the detailed carvings and scriptures on the wall, acting as ... read more

We arrive to Phnom Penh around 6 o'clock after once another long journey. We settled into our hostel and grabbed a bite to eat. Becuase we have planned to catch three countries within a short period of time its been very rush rush and alot of traveling by land. Though Cambodia is packed full of history and is very cheap to travel in, we will only stay a short period of time so that we can get some much needed beach time. We toured around the city and just relaxed the days away. We spent only a day in Phnom Penh before we set out to Siem Reap. The city that has exploded by tourism from the famous Angkor Wat. After six hours of busing, we stopped outside the city and were told to get off. ... read more

With the average temperature in the low 30's, it was time to cool off a bit by swimming at Ho Chi Minh's water park. 13kms from our hotel ment for a fun and scenic motorbike ride. Though I think we payed a little too much, it was an enjoyable ride. This water park was pretty much everything we could ask for. Clean, nice workers and of course the most important, fun. With every type of slide and even a wave pool it was easy for us to swim all day. Around 4 p.m. it started to rain hard. Becuase I was already in my trunks I really didn't mind to much but was a little bummed that I couldn't continue swiming. As soon as it began to thunder I was sure they would close the swimming ... read more

Ho Chi Minh City ( also better known as Saigon ) is situated on the banks of the Saigon River. With the surrounding towns, the city swells with more than 9 million people making it the largest metropolitan in Vietnam. Although not as beautiful and not as clean as Hanoi, Saigon appears to have alot to offer its tourist. Between river cruises and tours of tunnels left from the Vietnam war you can fill your day with not only sights but an overload of information about Vietnam. We were able to catch a cheap flight for 97 dollars from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh city with Vietnam Airlines in the morning. By catching the plane we were able to knock 36 hours of train off of our trip which we obviously didn't mind at all. Again ... read more

Over the past 5 days we have covered nearly 3000 km's by trains and automobiles. Starting in Qingdao we made our way down to Guanzhou. Down to Shenzhen. Back up to Guangzhou. Over to Nanning. Down to Pingxiang. Across the border, and finally to Hanoi. All in all our trip consisted of 49 hours of train, 4 hours of bus, and 30 mins of the good ol' Tuk - Tuk. Finally we can kick back and start to enjoy our time and relax; or at least try too. Crossng the border from China to Vietnam was surprisingly simple and straight forward and problem free. Hand over the passport, fill in a couple forms and walk through to the next gate. From crossing the American border on more than one occasion I'm used to the "say one ... read more

As the school year comes to an end, our traveling adventures and my blog entries will once again begin. I look back at the year and wonder to myself where has the time gone? Where ever it may have gone, it won't be coming back which means we can only look forward to the future which, Knock on Wood, will hopefully be a bright future. This past month there has been alot of "goodbye's" said to friends as well to relatives. More goodbye's than anyone would prefer but every new city visited is a reminder of how small the world is. ( I'm too lazy to write the whole story so insert "inside story" here) Just trust me, it's a small world. Haha. Sadly, Brittany and I had to say goodbye to Alex and Veronica as ... read more
