I am part of a group of 13 mad volunteers setting off for Rwanda on 6th November on behalf of the Cricket Without Boundaries charity. The Cricket Without Boundaries Trust was established in April 2005 by founder-trustees Andy Hobbs, Chris Kangis and Ed Williams. It is a registered charity in the UK, number 1111316, operating under the name of Cricket Without Boundaries ("CWB").

CWB has three main goals:

•To spread cricket through coaching children and teaching adults how to coach; and
•To link the sport to HIV/AIDS awareness and incorporate these messages into coaching sessions.
•To bring together and empower local communities through cricket.
Working in partnership with the Cricket Associations in each country, the relevant British High Commissions and the ICC, we follow a simple, 3 stage, sports development structure to try to ensure some form of sustained development of the game: 1) coach education; 2) Schools coaching, and 3) Tournament.

Our coach education takes the form of teaching the adults the basics of cricket through the ICC's Introduction to Cricket course (which includes coaching, umpiring and scoring) as well as for moredeveloped coaches delivering the ICC's level 1 and 2 awards. We try to link our coaching in with each National Cricket Association's existing development plans. In 2008 we signed a memorandum of understanding with Rwanda Cricket Association, committing to 5 years of support from CWB if the RCA meets it's own development goals

Apologies to all for the delay in getting this up. Internet issues in the information hub of Eastern Africa.... The team is made up of the three CWB trustees, Andy Hobbs, Chris Kangis, Ed Williams, returnees Paul Daniels and Nick “locals” Lowles, and new volunteers, Dan Taylor, Josh Wheatley, Jeremy Knott, Sandy Janju and David Fitt and Australian Scott Keown. Day 1: 6 November 2009 Despite the team’s rather liberal attitude to the 20.30 boarding time, causing a panicked 10 minute run to terminal 20, the third CWB trip to Rwanda took to the skies on the Virgin 21.15 flight to Nairobi. In theory with a scheduled 3 hour wait in Nairobi. Uppermost in all of our minds flying over the Sahara was whether we would ever see our baggage again, including two large bags of ... read more

Who would have thought there could be so much to write about and we haven't even arrived yet! Am writing this sitting in the bar at Nairobi airport, all flights onwards are either cancelled or delayed so we are 3 hours into a 6 hour wait for our flight to Kigali. The good news is that we have caught up with the advance party -Scott, ( aka "Ding Dong"), Jeremy (nickname as yet undecided, watch this space) and The Silver Fox himself (David) so most of the gang are now together and despite being a bit bleary eyed we are bonding nicely over a few card games. Everyone is really excited to finally be here and keen to get on to Rwanda. In the meantime, our luggage was seen going round and round on the carousel ... read more
