Well, i thought i'd try and give a quick update even though we've only been gone for one day! Firstly, Belgians seem happy to re-arrange the letters on a keyboard so it's like having to learn how to type all over again! We left for Dover in the early hours yesterday morning, arriving at Nancy's at around 6.30am (thanks Dad for the lift!) and were soon on our way. Within half an hour we had to pull over on the M20 as the roofrack sounded like it may fall apart, but the problem was quickly solved and before long we got to Dover. The ferry was uneventful, a nice calm crossing coupled with the most disgusting full english breakfast ever which i'm sure is what came back to haunt me last night! Nancy undertook the challenge ... read more

We leave tomorrow!! Thought i better write a quick passage just to remind people. I quit my job last week and have had a week off to prepare/be bored at home. Everything is packed and ready to go..it's a very tight squeeze trying to get everything in one backpack. Since the last blog we've been busy getting all our visas. There were no real issues, the Russian ones involved a lot of queing and a feeling of being interrogated once inside the embassy but all in all were not as difficult to get as i'd first feared. Next up was the Mongolian ones. They were a lot more pleased to see us at the Mongolian embassy but i think this is probably because hardly anyone ever goes there. It literally took a few mins in a ... read more

We've found our car!!! Its a dark green 1995 Mitsubishi Shogun and he's called Mitch! We spotted him last week on auto-trader and Nance went down for a visit. We don't know a lot about cars but it looks in good condition, has relatively low mileage and at £2,000 was well within our budget. All we need to do now is get it looked over for any potential issues and then make a few modifications in preperation for the long journey ahead. ... read more

It's now Wednesday 11th June and as at the start of this week i've only 50 days left in the office. So i thought its time for an update on progress (or lack of in some cases). I've started my jabs now and have had Typhoid, and i'm part of the way through the Hep A + B course (i think). No problems at the moment except a few minor flu like side effects. Next week i'll begin the three courses of Rabies jabs which is the most expensive of the lot at about £120. Nance had hers today and so far no signs of any problems (she hasn't started biting anyone yet), so i'll have to keep an eye on her. The only other thing to get sorted is Malaria tablets which i'll need for ... read more

Ok, less than 4 months to go now and after planning since late November we think we've researched and know everything we need to sort out. The problem now is actually doing it. Researching bit by bit we've come to realise and accept that parts of the trip are going to be incredibly challenging. We just hope Adelle up in Blackpool has been doing the same otherwise she's going to be in for a huge shock when we reveal it to her all in one go! Things that need to be sorted still are; Finances - i haven't got any money! I'm working a second job on weekends as a delivery driver for Perfect Pizza to bring in extra cash, but i still think i'm going to be short at the moment. Vehicle - We're looking ... read more
