Interesting When i first heard of this dish i thought it quite peculiar, you know, the whole issue with taboo food nowadays, but filled with culture. Surely, it is popular in china, but the in UK, otherwise. Personally i do prefer a good tea of xiao long bao and a cup of oolong to a long walk down the beach but hey, thats just me. The dish does sound interesting, but not some thing i would try. From an outsider/viewer's perspective, i give it a 3/8 for appearance, and a 4/8 for the chance of me ever actually trying it.
Fond memories of SuZhou I visited SuZhou with my Chinese girlfriend a dozen years ago, and found it quite nice, especially since she was able to describe/translate things; plus she helped bargain the prices of tourist items which weren't expensive.
Did you visit other scenic areas of JiangSu Province, such as ZhouZhuang?
Blessings to you both.

glad to see your blog again Hi, Noa and Amir:
Glad to see your blog again. In my hometown, there is an another bamboo forest, just like the place you went, we called it "shu nan zhu hai","shu" is the simplified name of Sichuan province, "nan" means the south, "zhu" means the bamboo, and "hai" means the sea. "shu nan zhu hai" is in the south part of Sichuan province. The Chinese famous film called "wo hu cang long" -English name "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon"was screened partly there. You can see it on:www.dipu.cn
Wish every thing goes well with you

Good stuff It's nice that you're taking classes and doing stuff that's not typical tourist. That's how you really get to know the local culture and get in touch with local tradition.

Eliptic Dish Bonjo, now you can sell your "Benziniya" and take a sattelite dish with you instead. This way you will have both a dish and a speedy cooker for the price of one.
