Koh Phi Phi We went to beautiful Phi Phi for two days. Knowing that it would be a lot more busy and hence expensive we ended up at Phi Phi Hill resort on Long Beach. We found that this was the best value for money place in this beach with huge bungalows and decent restaurant with spectacular views! Our twin room with bathroom was 750baht. Phi Phi was definitely worth the visit even though you have to share with many people. We met a lovely Australian couple called Jono & Claire and spent time with them on Phi Phi. We booked [View Full Entry]

KOH LANTA We decided to go back to Koh Lanta for a few more days but we stayed on a different beach this time. We stayed on Klong Dao beach. It was a nice wide beach with very soft sand. This beach is aimed more at package holidaymakers, with more families and buggies racing around the beach. The accommodation was more expensive but we found really nice bamboo bungalows for 350 baht called Mermaid beachfront bungalows. KOH JUM What do you do in Koh Jum? Nothing, It's brillant, so peaceful and all there is to do there is collect shells or [View Full Entry]

Langkawi With our Thai visa about to run out, we decided to head south to the Malaysian border on a visa run. This would allow us to return to Thailand to explore some more islands for the last leg of our trip. We decided to visit the Malaysian island of Langkawi for two nights as we had missed this area on our way through Malaysia previously. It was easy organising a bus and ferry from Satun, Thailand to Langkawi and it cost us 850B and took around 6 hours in total. Langkawi is a beautiful island but very commercialised as it [View Full Entry]

Krabi We spent only one day in Krabi as we were heading to Ko Lanta the following day. It is a nice town with a good market by the waterside. Koh Lanta We booked a minivan to take from Krabi to Koh Lanta for 250B. The weather seemed to change suddenly as we took off and torrential rain poured. The minivan was a bit of a wreck and the roof was leaking the water onto us in the back and our bags! It became our most frightening journey too with the driver increasing speed as the rain got heavier and he [View Full Entry]

Laem Ngop Because of our delayed bus from the cambodian/thai border we missed our connecting ferry that evening to Koh Cang. The driver brought us to a guesthouse where he would make commission in the port town of Laem Ngop even though we had previously been assured that we would be brought to nearby Trat if we wished. We decided to look for another guesthouse instead which may not have been the brightest idea when we realised that a lot of the roads were unlit and had stray dogs howling at us!! Luckily, a nice Welsh man called Jim passed by [View Full Entry]

Siem Reap was a nice tourist town where people mainly come to visit the famous Angkor Wat area. We decided to hire a moto driver as our guide and spent the day first visiting the main temple (palace of the king) and then the wats nearby. It was a really lovely day with lots of narrow steps to climb! The weather was a bit overcast so our photos did not come out so good. A lot of people were doing their best to make money from tourists here and Niamh found it difficult to resist buying books & postcards from the [View Full Entry]

We ventured to Phnom Penh after Saigon. Here we went to visit the National Museum where we saw many artifacts from the Angkor Wat area. We also visited the Tong Sleung museum which was once a high school but was then used the Khmer Rouge as a centre for the torture of many cambodians accused of being opposed to the Khmer Rouge regime or people that once worked for the previous government. You can still see the torture instruments used and photos of the victims. And before we left we saw a huge box containing skulls of some of the victims [View Full Entry]

HOI AN Hoi An is another world heritage site and really nice with narrow streets. Most people come here to get clothes or shoes tailormade at one of the many tailor/cobbler shops lining the city streets. And we were no exception. I got fitted for a suit at 11am and I went back that evening at 7pm for a fitting. I tried on the suit and it fitted perfectly. I ended up with one suit, three shirts and a tie for $120. Niamh was in heaven but she did well to control herself and not spend too much money! She ended [View Full Entry]
